so far vitamin e and c are the vitamins that in all my time reading journals were never NEVER EVER able to cure, prevent any major condition (except scurvy for vitamin c but you need a small amount and its impossible to occur in modern diet) So wtf is all that shit talk about those vitamins being so highly praised as antioxidants when both of them can also cause disease (hence vitamin e study linking to health problems in many studies before) and vitamin c causing DNA damage; refer to my other thread in here; http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/threads/615346-vitamin-c-and-dna-damage

Antioxidant is not any sort of automatic benefit. There are lots of studies showing that vitamin E can mitigate fatty liver or liver fibrosis in some situations, but many studies that vitamin E increases prostate cancer incidence.

Years ago there was a study to find out about the largely theoretical proposition that beta-carotene would decrease lung cancer. Turned out that beta-carotene increases lung cancer in smokers, at least by one study done in Sweden.

Antioxidants likely do little good in isolation, except for some specific conditions. I tend to agree that megadoses of vitamin C have been way over promoted, likely many other nutrients as well. I do believe a largely plant based diet with many antioxidants is overall a good thing, while believing a single antioxidant taken in isolation is probably of minimal value, maybe even dangerous.

Fish oil is a very valuable addition to very many people's diets. However, it could well be redundant or counter-productive depending on one's existing diet and health situation. There is no universal elixir.

On one hand, I can see the points you're making. The word "antioxidant" has taken very willfully to the American way of life, much like "let it go", without people even understanding the first thing it means.

Let me tell you something and listen good: just eat from Mother Earth's bounty and ignore what people say of her bounty. You're much better off ignoring 90% of what shows up on television / the Internet in terms of health.

Isn't it funny how the seemingly most healthy are the ones that don't know much about modern health?

It is possible to get scurvy while maintaining a modern diet living in a western country. I had enough food to eat (and was eating adequate calories for weight maintenance), but did not include any fruits or vegetables (or fortified foods) in my diet, and this went on for months, and I ended up with scurvy.

Just wanted to point that out. I have nothing to say on the main subject of antioxidants and them being a scam. 8)
