Antihistamines: Any Benefit of Mixing Cetirizine with Loratadine?

Hey All,

I have quite bad Allergic Rhinitis and also Oral Allergy Syndrome. As we head into April I'm starting to struggle with the Rhinitis and have started taking antihistamines. The usual dose for both Loratadine and Cetirizine is 10mg o.d. but you can take up to 40mg of each for conditions such as hives.

Would I be better off taking a larger dose of either Loratadine or Cetirizine such as 20mg, or would I be better off taking 10mg but taking both Loratadine and Cetirizine at the same time? I don't really know much about the mechanics of antihistamines, so I was wondering whether there would be any kind of synergic effect that comes with mixing two different antihistamines as opposed to a larger dose of just the one.

The reason I usually go with Loratadine or Cetirizine is because they're very cheap, once per day, and non-drowsy.

I don't know whether I'd be better off taking 20mg of either antihistamine, 10mg of each, or 10mg of either and then adding in a nasal spray such as Beclometasone Dipropionate?

Note, the half life of Loratadine's active metabolite's is ~27 hours, Cetirizine's half life is ~8 hours and Beclometasone's half life is ~3 hours.

I'd consider other second generation antihistamines if that helped - but not first generations due to their drowsiness. Don't think I've ever tried a third generation antihistamine? I'm a superhero by day so being drowsy gets in the way of my day job a little bit.
