I take liquid Sertraline, liquid Abilify and Klonopin for anxiety and depression. I drink a decent amount of soda, too. The caffeine in the soda affects me more than I originally thought that it would affect me. I am addicted to caffeine, however, like I said, I am really sensitive to it and I think that it's screwing up my medication; it's definitely screwing up how I feel. I drink more caffeine during the work week and I feel like shit, just about. I feel tired, mentally cloudy, anxious, a little paranoid and overall, kind of loopy. Trainspotter explained to me that, basically, caffeine and it's make-up work against the medications I take and cause bad side effects from the medication and bad side effects from the caffeine. I would be interested in hearing what people have to say about caffeine and medications and why this stuff happens. Thanks. By the way, Trainspotter told me that I should taper off caffeine and not drink soda anymore because of the bad combination. I think that he's right, but I'm addicted to the caffeine - it's like a circle - argh!!!

Is it also liquid clonazepam (Klonopin) you're taking?

Caffeine can speed up the half lives of your medications. Liquid medications are ingested faster by the organism too. Also don't forget sugar.

If you at least could try coffee/tea instead of caffeinated sodas, where you can titrate down the dose of sugar is my guess. Healthier alternative. Good luck.

Well he's taking 2 different anti-depressants on top of clonazepam.
You need to kick your doctor in the face!

Thanks for the responses, everybody. No, I'm not taking liquid Klonpin - didn't know that they made it in liquid form. I'm taking the kind that dissolves on your tongue. As for the liquid Sertraline and liquid Abilify, I'm taking the liquid Sertraline as my antidepressant and the Abilify as a booster. I only take the equivalent of 3 mg of Abilify. Supposedly, in low doses, Abilify helps your antidepressant work better.

By the way, Bluesbreaker, when you say that caffeine can spead up the half-lives of my medications, do you mean that it can make the medications less effective and get out of your system quicker?

And as far as sugar goes, it's in everything. My mother has a friend that literally stopped eating anything with sugar in it and at something like 65 or 70, she hasn't felt better in her life, she said.

I also need to cut out salt. I didn't grow-up on it, but as an adult, I have recently been using it. I know that it plays with your blood pressure. I used to be slender, for years, but now I'm overweight. I don't need the salt. I need to get off the salt, too.

Well, thanks for letting me vent, everybody. I appreciate it and I appreciate your input.

P.S. FYI - I'm a she. :)

I'm on Abilify and fluphentixol, both at moderate doses, and caffeine does nothing for me at all, nothing happens.

That's weird, bees_knees. It really affects me. I guess that everyone is different, as the saying goes.

I had an energy drink today and that worked...

Ended up a bit depressed later because of it though.
