Hey Community.

I want to know which drugs or medicaments can used as potent antidepressants for a long period without getting too much trouble with tolerance.

I heard that classic antidepressants like SSRI's, TCA's, SNRI's, etc. often dont have the desired impact. I Also heard about amber or 5-HTP used as antidepressants.

Dissociatives like DXM, MXE or ketamin seems to have very positive antidepressant effects for many users.

So my question is are there more drugs or medicaments like dissociatives, that have decent effects on your mood and can be used for a longer period?

Thx alot <3

Have you been on any antidepressants before? If so, you'd get better replies by listing what you've been on and your experiences with each one. Take this thread as an example.

There's one critical thing you have to know for sure before proceeding: whether your depression is unipolar or bipolar. I got misdiagnosed as unipolar, put on venlafaxine, and lost a year of my life as a result.

I took DXM for 6 years but in the end i took too much and the tolerance became so high that i didnt have any positive effects anymore. I went to rehab and I'm clean for 2 months now. I'll stay clean 6 months i think and now I'm thinking of how to continue after my abstinence.

Dissociatives seems like the most potent antidepressents from all that I read, but just wanna ask if there is something else as good as K, DXM or MXE

whats amber?

iv heard good things about tianeptine and agomelatine, but they are difficult to obtain in some countries

Amber is Hypericum perforatum, sry I'm from germany just type it into the www and this was the first thing come as a translation :D

Somebody can confirm that tianeptine and agomelatine are good alternatives? What makes them so special?

Other potent antidepressant are still welcome :)

They all work differently on different people. Some people get relief from SSRIs, some SNRIs, other people need to use mood stabilisers, etc. Nobody can tell you on the internet which drug will help depression for you personally.

I've tried many SSRI's myself, and they all seemed to never work. Lamictal seemed to work well for me for a while, although I never stick with anti-depressants. I always seek refuge in self medication. Go figure.

All the luck to you though. I'd honestly just regulate my food/drink heavily and stick to exercise. Take notice as to what minerals you're consuming and what ones you may be in need of - I think a proper diet & exercise is needed alongside any treatment, especially before you may attempt to go full time on such medications. Give yourself the honest attempt at a natural lifestyle before conforming to the 'anti-depressant' lifestyle.

Just my 2cents.

agomelatine is special because it is the only melatonergic antidepressant, it has a very minimal side effect profile in comparison to the standard SSRI meds. it doesn't blunt your emotions, but helps to improve mood and reduce anxiety by enhancing the way one experiences life, e.g. music sounding better, socialising more enjoyable, wanting to go out more etc. at least thats what i gathered from the reading i have done on it.

its supposed to work by balancing circadian rhythms by establishing a regular sleep pattern and many people seem to report that they sleep and wake up feeling very refreshed with more energy to do things throughout the day.

its brand name should be valdoxan in germany

But isn't it counterproductive? It will make you depressed. IMO/E it creates a level of difficulty so your body could naturally produce endorphin..

Lithium is used as a mood stabiliser in bipolar And As an adjunct in drug resistant depressIon it is has been quite effective for a lot of people dissociatives r basically sedatives r tranquilisers that numb ur emotions so u dont feel anything r loosen ur inhibitions n have d usual problems of tolerance/withdrawal

Don't you feel a little numbed? Like more neutral than you would have liked to be?
I had them prescribed to me few years ago and for some reason I remember urging to stop using them..
I don't recall the reason thought, reason I'm asking how comfortable are you with Lithium.
