Hey folks, I have posted a question previously regarding benztropine (Cogentin) as an opioid potentiator...and the common consensus is that anticholinergics are unpredictable and entering "No-mans land", as Sekio put it.
I have some benztropine which I picked up from a girl trying to convince me she had "Benzos"...I looked at the medication bottle and quickly became aware that it was some kind of tropine...not a benzo, haha! I told her immediatly she ought to reconsider advertising her benztropine as benzodiazepines...cause they are worlds apart, and i'm sure there are people out there would wouldn't think twice about what they are popping. The pills were 2 mg benztropine, scored in 4 parts ( I imagine taking that much at once could have serious side effects ).
But hey, I was curious and gave her a couple bucks for a some of these, as I just had ran out of OrfenAce and Benadryl...so I figured i'd try the benztropine as a replacement for the antihistamines.
So, I started off trying about 0.25 mg benztropine alongside 90 mg codeine. The effects were very mild, and I had almost no dry mouth...so I think that the dosage was too low. Today I tried taking a full 0.5 mg benztropine prior to taking my 90 mg codeine...and about 3 hours after dosing the benztropine (2-3 hrs to reach peak-plasma)...I still don't feel much difference (though my mouth is drier than last time).
I'm thinking next time i'll try 0.75 mg? Not sure if this medication is worth even dabbling with as an opioid potentiator/anti-histamine. But I know that atropine has been used for this purpose, but it's not reccommended. Atropine is about twice as potent as benztropine...so I think about 1 mg of benztropine is 0.5 mg atropine...which is the smallest available oral dosage form (0.4 mg - Sal-tropine).
Has anyone out there experience with Sal-Tropine (Atropine) or Cogentin (Benztropine)? They are both quite similiar I imagine, though atropine has stronger anticholingergic activity.
I know lots of people out there have tried Datura and other atropine containing plants, but I am looking strictly for others who have experience with known dosages of pharmaceutical anticholinergics. I'm not looking to OD on an anticholinergic, nor do I wan't to hallucinate...so that is why I am slowly working my way up, being careful to note any side effects.
Is there any "safe" dosage with this medications, or does it vary widely between individuals?
