Anti-Psycotic drugs

^^^ Do you take all your seroquel dose at night or do you take divided doses throughout the day? I take all my dose at night but some people i know with bipolar take theirs in divided doses.

No...I'm not even rx'd it. As I said, it was offered to me as a benzo (stupid motherfuckers who told me that but I didn't know better). The one and only time I took it, I took it at night. It didn't do much except knock me out. This was over a year ago so the details are foggy.

To zombiesarepeaceful: I sense some sarcasm from you. I would like to tell you that cannabis has been the greatest anti-psychotic of all IMHO. It rid me of all my delusions and paranoia. It wasn't until I was Seroquel that things took a turn for the worst. :(

But I'm better now. =D

Sarcasm regarding what? I was misprescribed Geodon...I'm not bipolar or schizophrenic, but because I told them I had paranoid thoughts, they decided I needed to be drugged with antipsychotics. My paranoid thoughts are a learned behavior....due to living with someone who never shuts up about the world being out to get them. I, personally, do not believe my paranoia half the time and am able to reason with it, but it comes naturally because I've grown up being told that everyone is out to get me. But I know this is not entirely true.

phatass & SMFG - what kind of doctors would give anti-psychotics to replace benzos? Either you're schizophrenic, your doctor thinks you are schizophrenic, or your doctor is a total jackass. But like the dude above me said, you shouldn't take them unless you have schizophrenia, or maybe very occasionally to sleep in dire situations (but lets not get into that).

But, replacing/tapering/whatever benzos with anti-psychotics is not a practice I have ever heard of, and it doesn't seem medically sound. Does your doctor want you to be a zombie? I guess their tactics might work, its hard to have anxiety when you have no personality and no feelings.

Both of you guys - question your doctor's judgment, because this doesn't make any sense. If he wants you off benzos, you can taper off them, then try things like buspar, SSRIs, beta-blockers, natural remedies, etc for anxiety. But NOT anti-psychotics.

I recently ran into a pal of mine from a few years back. He's now on lithium and risperidone, and he doesn't know why. At least, now he doesn't. He blindly takes them and I don't think he realizes they have turned him into a emotionless automaton. Its quite sad actually, he probably had 1 panic attack or schizo episode, and now his doctor has turned him into a vegetable. More people need to question their doctors judgement (or lack thereof).

Now, maybe its helping you guys, I can't tell from over here. But like jayslapmc said, people told him the differences when he was on and off them. Get some feedback, you may or may not like what you hear. If you need them, excellent, keep taking them. If you don't need them, get off ASAP. And they are by no means a replacement for benzos, unless "benzo" is a synonym for "emotions and personality." By that definition, antipsychotics are a perfect replacement...

first up cheers 4 ur views bro has put me on a train of thouhgt, the doc im @ is just folowing on these meds that were in fact given to me upon exiting the mental care unit after goin off on the benzos, a GOVERNMENT healthcare hospital, some asian chick psyc is als i remember, this largactyl is the only drug i have not firstly thouroughly studied through the net etc before commencing takin it, i was basicly told i wasnt leavin unless i had it.. upon reading your post i was again in 2 question the local pharmacist (poor man) about this and said basicly i didnt no if they thought i was skitz and he assured me that was not the case as they would have given me one of these newer drugs.. im off to the doctor tomorrow geared with more info, and will be having this dissussion as to how long i need to b takin this shit.. probs bein im a little all over the wall right now , durin life i'v drank, smoked, tripped, sped, done all sorts of opiates etc. But over all had cleaned up the act for about 4 yrs. im on benzos 4 anxiety, which is rampent throught the family, im not drinkin right now (as of the other day) but still smoke my most hated of all drugs nicotiene, but when not droppin the largactyl havin a little trouble being settled, not agitated etc, i just dont know what to think on this one....personaly i would immagine a stronger benzo for a week or 2 ta chill out , then taper off over a month,,, just like last time... but try argue that point with ur doctor....any hows im feelin cool right now only on 50 mg today n its nearly time 4 me to go.. could talk 4 ever on this but will leave it for another pot or 2 .... peace:)

NB:This is my first thread, im so stoked to ALL of u who took the time to post !! many thanks

Its been a week now and im over these shity anti psycs... cesced takin em 2 days ago.. switch back to xanax .5-.75 daily, managed to get gastritis somehow, and by now mind u takin 100mg of this largactyl was doin nothing 2 me, had a complete skitz out while i was on it anyways and so i put it down to the valium-xanax changeover, something to do with the halflife of the stuff, any ways im feelin shit in the stomach but fuck heaps yer betta in the head.....
lesson:stay away from anti psycs nless u REALLY need em

I find antipsychotics highly dysphoric. 10mg Geodon can make me feel "organized" though.

Codeine + diphenhydramine + acepromazine made me feel like a zombie.

I'd kind of like to try Clozaril + Focalin(to make it tolerable) to possibly totally eliminate voices.

You're not the brightest, are you? Of course antipsychotics are used to stop trips. They're the primary drug given for that purpose. benzos are also used, but not as often.

Do a little reading.

Your experience is uncommon, and probably not the result of the antipsychotic.

I had some bad reactions (hallucinations, violent impulses) when I first took Seroquel.

Yeah...Ruski Nath...weed isn't an antipsychotic by any means. It may in some cases, calm a person down or relieve depression temporarily, but for others it may worsen either one or cause rebound anxiety/depression/psychotic symptoms...any drug, infact, is capable of altering a person's state of mind for better or worse.

^ agreed zombiesarepeacefull, i forgot 2 mention thats im still smokin... in my case, im reconing my psycotic eps were more mainly due 2 a binge of mdma and stresses of loosin my house etc, when the cops rocked up i just lost it. this is where it gets interesting..I get taken 2 goverment hospital by cops n tha chick who assesses me is an old asian woman with broken english, just basicly said i wasnt gonna b leavin without takin em (largactyl) , they wanted 2 keep me there, luckily i have had a good time when i need 2 talkin n dealin n pleadin my way through shit managed 2 get them 2 call a girlfriend who came n got me ... but i couldnt go without takin this shit. the time on it was generally unpleasnt and im now like 3 or 4 days off my head feels clear even though i still havin tha odd conez here n there... was watchin a tv show last nite about a guy who was on death row in the states, the prosocution had a weak case agianst this dude so they mass dosed him with anti psycs during his trial n played him as an emotionless killer..... makes me wonder although these drugs DO have there purpose in certain instances,, how widespread is the misuse of these drugs by our authorites?? fuk me m8z i hate to think,
if you dont fit into the system, then we will drug u and make u do as we want!

^I duno man...I got drugged with antipsychotics simply for expressing that I had paranoid thoughts and difficulty sleeping, as I said. I imagine that they are widely overprescribed. My doctor is extremely antibenzos and would prescribe a sedating antipsychotic instead of a benzo for me in a heart beat. I think they ought to be prescribed less...but...meh.
