I have heard talk that Australian music festivals implement water (from taps, bottles or possibly both) containing some kind of chemical that takes away the effect of MDMA? :( I guess this would be to reduce the amount of people under the influence of MDMA, which would probably be the most commonly taken drug at Australian festivals. I've heard stories of people taking pills that have not worked at all, or worked and suddenly stopped (pills that had been previously effectively, even the day before). I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with this, or has any information at all regarding this issue. Any related info is appreciated. :)

Sounds like an urban myth to me... If festivals actually spiked their water with SSRIs or something along those lines it would not be very fair to all the people at the event NOT taking MDMA. It might even be deadly to those taking MAOIs. No, sounds like nonsense to me.

This seems wrong in many ways, immoral, dangerous, expensive etc. I don't think you are legally allowed to administer something that would have such an effect without people's consent.

They're lying to you. This is fear-mongering. No way can an organization place anything in water which will reduce MDMA's effects. It's completely illegal.

Exactly, not to mention they don't if other people are on legal drugs they actually need. If somebody dies from a reaction, they're in shit.

Just the fact that there could be unknown drug complications even with scripted meds lead me to believe whoever told you this was feeding you bull shit.

Urban myth, seemingly Australian in origin.
Check this thread from AusDD 2 years ago.
Free water at festivals is a good thing. Stimulants are known to induce paranoid delusions!
Play safe kids :)

Myth probably got started by some dealer trying to explain why they sold a whole batch of inactive duds, and has been perpetuated by the sort of gullible ravers that will neck any pill that will "fuck them up" (and pay for the...uh, privilege).

That's just a guess, but the fact that there continued to be a market for "ecstasy" in the years of (what were reportedly) almost total MDxx drought is a testament to the fact that these sorts of uninformed drugs users are plentiful enough - in Australia at least - the believe and perpetuate such a story.

- btw i don't mean to slag anyone off by mentioning gullibility - the whole black market runs on a mix of trust, optimism and (by contrast) staying safe by being as informed as possible.
Certain websites (such as this'un!) and reagent test kits are the antidote to urban myths and dealer bullshit.
Which is not to say I didn't have my share of ignorant "cokey pills" (duh...hahaha) back in the day...but thankfully I know better now, and try to spread good hr or at least encourage people to use their criticall thinking skills before taking shit their friends (or the media) tell them as absolute truth. There are too many agendas at play sometimes when it comes to an unregulated, highly lucrative black market - and frankly the stakes are too high nowadays to believe what someone at a party or a festival tells you (especially if they or their friends are trying to sell you something).

This sort of thing reminds me just how valuable a resource BL is - even if I personally don't take MDMA any more; it's pretty much applicable to every illicit recreational substance from powders and liquids to blotter.
The "water killed my MDMA high" story is - almost certainly bullshit - but then again, this could be said about a lot of what passes as "common knowledge" about drugs.
Caveat emptor!

Because nearly all "Aussie pills" are absolutely shithouse, I agree with the other posters here, I think this was just a whole bunch of BS made up to cover up the shitty pills. I have actually felt this experience where you are still dialled... but sober... as what the other posters in the thread Spacejunk linked were talking about. But it wasn't due to drinking water, I'm putting it down to set, setting and a hundred other factors. Aussie scene is rife with bullshit and dogs, so HR resources like test kits, Bluelight, hell even Pillreports have saved that many lives already without question.

I know this dickhead last year who tried telling me that:

Yellow pills were speed
Red pills were heroin
Blue pills were LSD
White pills were MDMA

(DISCLAIMER: THEY'RE NOT...... HE'S VERY UNEDUCATED)

"Gotta get the white pills bro, the white pills, they got all the good shit in em!" Fuckin cooked cunt. Hate him. Love Bluelight though you got a great point there Spacejunk. A few of his promoter mates (more from the logic department) tried also telling me about this shit in the water. Then again the club does sell 250ml bottles of water for $5. Absolute daytime robbery (so to speak). And they wonder why everyone is fucked off their face on GHB while deepthroating lollipops.

Is there a chemical that can stop it? Sounds a bit like their thinking it's stopped it from working just because they heard it will??

Technically benzos would mute and dull a lot of MDMA's effects. However, benzos are strictly prescription. They're not going to be putting benzos in water to ruin MDMA for people. It's beyond naiive to even consider it occurring.

Going to close because the question has been convincingly answered and the thread can go no further.
