Yesterday I was talking with this women at our office about het recentl holiday at Sri-Lanka and the maladives. They were traveliing in a group and As a profylax against tropical deseases they had their shots and anti - malaria. She told me she and another girl in the group were having open eye hallucinations. What she told me reminded me to some of the Dramamine trip reports.
So, Later that day I did a search on the Net, I found several anti malaria drug brands, including this little fellow:
mefloquine (Lariam).
Quotes from a site:
"Lariam has received "undeservedly bad press", says Jamieson. There are bizarre stories about Lariam's side-effects, people are said to have completedly flipped out, experienced hallucinations, felt suicidal or suffered insomnia.
According to Jamieson, the results of a recent study show that one in 140 people experience mild psychiatric changes when taking Lariam. These include slight changes in personality, a slight increase in aggressiveness, disturbing dreams and the worsening of already present character traits - for example, a person who is mildly paranoid normally can experience intense paranoia."
I wonder what the interactions with other drugs are hehe...
