Misc anti depressant suggestion

I don't know about as an anti-depressant, though I have read that it works for people. I took it to try quitting smoking. Didn't work in the long run, but I did notice that I actually lost weight while on it.

Its can work for people who don't respond well to SSRIs or in conjunction with SSRIS. IME it has less lethargy than the average SSRI and works pretty well, so you should talk to your doctor about it, let him decide if it'd work well for you, and what how it might react with any other drugs you may take. On another note, Lexapro (escitalopram) is an SSRI that works well with minimal side effects. Best of luck to you, TMP.

I'm on bupropion (Wellbutrin), but I'm considering stopping cos it ain't working all that well. It's a dopamine/norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, so it's quite different to an SSRI. I remember reading that one of the side effects is insomnia, so it's probably less sedating than SSRI's. Personally, I haven't really noticed any difference as I didn't get lethargy or weight gain from SSRI's - or Wellbutrin.

I'm currently on 300 mgs Wellbutrin SR and 20 mgs of Celexa (Citalopram) and the combination of the 2 have worked wonders for me. I can sleep at night, my depression is under control, and I'm not really having that many bad side effects besides some shaking at times.

I've heard horror stories about this stuff, everyone I've known who's taken it has suffered pretty horrific side effects... my Mom especially.

Id rather be fat and happy than normal and depressed IMO. Im currently at the underweight/depressed stage and id take either really.
But Bupropion does not sound like a good option. its basically a stimulant with out the upper quality. read below
Bupropion is a novel, non-tricyclic antidepressant with a primary pharmacological action of monoamine uptake inhibition. The drug resembles a psychostimulant in terms of its neurochemical and behavioural profiles in vivo, but it does not reliably produce stimulant-like effects in humans at clinically prescribed doses. Bupropion binds with modest selectivity to the dopamine transporter, but its behavioural effects have often been attributed to its inhibition of norepinephrine uptake.

I would probably go with the SSRI. This drug ^^ sounds like a side effect bombshell

I'd rather not use an ssri due to the weight gain and lethargy side effects cuz I alredy have those. How is buprion/wellbutrin

Have you tried any SSRI? There are some with very few side effects - Celexa and Lexapro both work very well and don't really cause weight gain or lethargy. The only side effect I had on those were a little bit of an upset stomach and diarrhea but only on the first 2 or 3 days then it went away.

Try an ssri! Wellbutrin sucks IMHO

I was on Budeprion for a couple months. Me and my doc were looking for something mood lifting that would also have some stimulation to it

Didn't do shit for me. I was on Celexa before that. Same story. Not even any side effects

Going back to see her soon. Not really sure what's left for mood lift + some stimulant effects besides, well, stimulants

Wellbutrin works OK, it helped me out and it didn't fuck me up from abrupt cessation, but I don't recommend anyone abruptly cessate any antidepressants.

I would suggest weed, unless you smoke too much of it (then munchies and couch lock do become a problem like anti-D's, but you get high instead).

Wellbutrin did not work well for me at all. It made my anxiety go through the roof, made me irritable, and just uncomfortably tweaked out and weird. It did help with my ADD somewhat (this is before I was diagnosed with ADD), and seemed to enhance my creativity quite a bit.

If you have anxiety, I'd try something else first. A lot of doctors will add Wellbutrin on to an SSRI. Instead of causing more side effects, they tend to cancel each others side effects out...Wellbutrin can improve the weight gain, lethargy, and sexual side effects of SSRIs, while the SSRI can reduce the anxiety that Wellbutrin can cause.

You might want to read up on Emsam. Its an MAOI but doesn't require dietary restrictions like the old ones. It works on Dopamine, Norepinephrine, and Serotonin, whereas most ADs just target one or 2. I thought it worked really well for me with no side effects except some insomnia/irritability at first, but unfortunately you can't take stimulants with it, and Emsam alone didn't do much for my ADD symptoms.

Wellbutrin can actually make your anxiety worse because of its stimulant properties

Marijuana has actually been a pretty effective anti-depressant for me. There are times when it causes anxiety and paranoia if I smoke too much but if I smoke just the right amount its fine and dandy.

You do not know how these drugs will affect you. You will not know until you try them for yourself. If you are curious about the options you have for medications you should bring this up with your psychiatrist. Your psychiatrist should be able to tell you anything you want to know about the medications and provide you with informational packets if you request them. Psychiatric medications are serious business and you should use them with the guidance of your psychiatrist. I hope you end up finding something that works for you. I know how tough it can be to find the right medications, but once you find them it is well worth it.
