Another attempt at growing: SOG with 15 Power Plants.

loooking pretty good, but im noticing alot of brown/yellow leaves... is your light too close ? it may be burning your babies, are u watering enuf ? not enuf ? what nutes are u using ?

The light is close, at 30-35 cm's, but at that height there's still enough ventilation to keep the temperature normal. So that's cool. Yeah, I think I've overdone the nutes a bit, have checked everything but the EC, can't measure it.. Prolly the plants staying little due to the cold and me giving too much nutes to plants which have an almost stopped metabolism.. I already figured I should give less nutes because of the pots, which are almost 2 sizes smaller, but I guess it was still too much during that cold. They're on a very low dose of bloom nutrients right now (5 ml terra flores in 3 litres of water 2-3 days a week & 1 ml PK13/14 mixed in once a week). I water when the soil has dried up, which is about every other day or so when they're in flowering. Can't do much if anything about the fucked up leaves anymore, the ones that are looking shitty prolly will die between now & harvest time, I'm more concerned with the buds though and they're going okay right now..

And yeah, I know how leafy Orange Bud can be, I've manicured hundreds of buds from an outdoor grow of a friend of mine last fall, drove me nuts.. Power Plant isn't that leafy, especially these plants aren't, so that won't be a problem at all. =D

Btw, the seedling has been transferred to my backyard, now standing in an improvised greenhouse.

Chronic, I'd be happy if I end up with the same amount as last grow, which was ~175 grams.

Week 6 of flowering now:

Lovely job and lovely buds. Just a quick question. Around the beginning of May i'll have a grow box setup to use. It's about 6 feet tall, 3 feet deep, by 6 feet wide. Two HPS lights, I guess 400s. I was thinking of doing a DWC hydroponic setup using scrog...is scrog unnecessary, as it's best for small spaces, or are there definite benefits for ScRoGing? I think the scrog idea is just awesome and I can't think of a reason not to do it.

I was going to try and do 2 different strains (good bagseed that's all) with two different growth methods. Either DWC/soil both with SCROG or all DWC, only half SCROG. What do you think? I wanted to do the different methods in order to test out which ones work better, and to just expand my basic cultivation skillset/knowledge base.

thanks!

edit: I know there's a big difference between scrog and sog, yes

At least go for one type of medium, 2 types will probably result in the hydro set-up growing faster and taller as the soil set-up, so your even canopy, which is so important with scrogging, will be ruined.

Now, you can try to use both a SCROG and a SOG or something else, just to see how that particular strain grows. A lot of the benefits gained from scrogging also rely on the strain, you specifically want a strong branchy plant, which will still produce solid buds when topped. Great choice would be, NLxBB for example.

Anyways, good luck with the whole ordeal man, I bet it will turn out just fine. :)

hey thanks for the tips! Yep i'm planning on doing anywhere from 6-8 DWC setups with their own air supply for each..might SCROG half of them, or all, haven't decided yet

Some macro's from daaay.. 43 or 44 or something:

Still lot's of clear heads overall, little patch of brown & blurry trichs, from buds on the bottom. They got a while to go.

hey BM (haha), will you harvest when the trichromes are clear or more opaque? earlier for more THC/sativa high, and later for a more narcotic/indica/CBD high right?

Is it possible to do some strains straight to flower 12/12 lighting from seeds? how long, in general, are plants vegged for? is there a certain height to reach for, a certain number of days/weeks, or wait until they sexually mature? or does it vary with strain? anybody know? k thanks

^ Varies incredibly from strain. Most plants which tend to stretch like mad (sativa's) are placed under a 12/12 cycle right away to keep them managable indoors. If a particular strain doesn't grow tall, but has more indica features, you're better off just using a veg period, minimally 2 weeks. But seeing as you're going for a scrog, then you can't go without a veg period. It's because you have to tie them down to the net before they're gonna flower (from everything that I've read, although I could be wrong).

Btw, I'm letting them go another few weeks (probably 2.5-3) untill they've packed on some weight. So I'm going for the extra weight & couchlock. :)

Awesome, thanks for the tips. with a sativa dominant strain and doing scrog i'll probably veg 2 weeks at the most. plus i'm doing DWC and they supposedly have unparalled growth rates, if done correctly so..yay.

30-35cm isn't all that close. I have a chart around here somewhere that equates the light intensity at the a tropical latitude to distance from the lights. With a 400w hps 15cm will be fine.

nenarOPI… DWC has a nice growth rate in veg to be sure, but only once their root system has been pretty well established. Right around two weeks from cracking is where they take off. What strain will you be growing? There are a couple of sativa's that can be flowered a week from seed and still achieve nice results. To have good buds you have to have a healthy plant to support those buds. One extra week in veg could drastically improve your end results. Peace.

EDIT: With some equatorial sativa's turning the lights down gradually will reduce a massive stretch so you'll have a more efficient growing set up and tighter internodal spacing. Peace.

quick question, supposing you didnt have the readypack soil, what preparation would you have done to the soil youre using. and have you always grown with the packet stuffs?

^ Yeah, I don't want to be messing around with blood & bone meal, that sort of things, too much hassle if I can buy it pre-mixed.. But a good soil mix would be (stolen from another site):
25% perlite
25% regular potting soil
20% vermiculite
15% worm castings
10% bone meal
5% blood meal

And I've finally got the pics online, week 7, they've at least got another week to go..
