Animal testing - how?

I don't know if this is the right sub-forum for this, but forgive me because I don't know where else to post this.

Let's say an individual (not associated with any organization) developed a new drug and wanted to get it animal tested. Is this even possible? What are the least costly ways of going about this? Could it be done at a university? If it was done in a professional lab, how much would it cost?

I know this sounds strange, but I've tried to research this and the only information I find is related to the prevention/opposition of animal testing.

It is possible to do the type of testing you are asking about. Ultimately the difficulty/expense depends on what you are testing and who does the work.

For work at a University, you have to find a lab who can do the work. Some university labs are willing to run experiments if you pay them. The other option is to set up a collaboration with a lab, so they will run the experiments for free. However, in the latter case you would probably not have any control over the direction of the project or how the data is used.

There are many companies that can run in vivo experiments. That option, however, tends to be very expensive.
