Angel's Eye View
By Eric West
Loud music throbbed and Zach felt as if his entire being was absorbed by
each undulating pulse. Brilliant flashes of strobing light flooded his
vision. He weaved through a mass of whirling worlds. Each dancer in a
trance that excluded all else, and yet moving with a fluid oneness that
contained them all.
The rythm was the bond that held them together. Each motion unique,
each person an individual but each one caught up in a complex pattern
that was absolutely beautiful to behold.
This was the first time Zach had ever been to a party without using drugs.
It was always interesting to experience something in a new state of
conciousness. Sobriety, like any other state could provide this as well.
He moved towards the wall where people were relaxing a few minutes.
Some simply tired from dancing, some so under the sway of powerful
drugs they couldn't dance anymore.
Zach moved towards his friend Tom. Tom had taken a large dose of
ketamine earlier. Zach waved his hand in front of Tom's face, but he was
oblivious.
Tom wasn't who Zach had come here to see anyways.
Zach came up behind his friend Chad and put his arm around his
shoulder.
"Is that you , Zach?"
"Its me Chad."
"Sometimes when your so close, I just know its you."
"Its always been like that between us. We have a connection,
you and I. We'll always be a part of each other's lives."
"Its been really hard since you left man."
"That's why I'm here now. I came by to cheer you up, thought we
would party like old times."
"At first, when you went away, I thought my entire world had
ended. I've learned to press on... but I miss you."
"I've missed you too... I heard about what your girl did to you."
"When Kelly dumped me, it was too much for me too handle on
my own. I really needed you there to lean on."
"I'll always be here for you to lean on. You'll never be alone."
"I wonder what its like, where your at now."
"I really love it there. Its absolutely beautiful."
"The thing that keeps me going is the hope that I'll get to go there
someday."
"You will. I promise. Its already been arranged. But you gotta be
patient. Its gonna be awhile."
Chad took a few steps away and Zach followed. Chad moved out on the
dance floor. He had glowsticks in both of his hands, and his movements
were like water. Out of the two of them, Chad had always been the better
dancer, but Zach stepped up to battle him.
Their battles were never the same. They were both creative and each
had spent hours upon hours practicing at home alone. But for some
reason, despite the unpredictability of the dance steps, they could never
catch the other off guard.
It was beautiful, like Tai Chi and ballet at once.
After a while Chad was tired and he stopped, "I haven't been practicing as
much since you left."
Zach just smiled sadly. This night had not been what he had expected.
They moved back to the wall and Chad leaned against it and then sank to
the floor. Tears welled up in his eyes and he placed his head between
his knees.
"If you were just around to give me advice like you used to. I
could really use a helping hand some time."
"You want some advice kid?"
"I just need to know what to do."
"Moderate your drug use. I know you hear this everywhere, but
look what it did to me. You've just got to find the strength within yourself
to control how much you take them. They can be great tools you know,
for pleasure and transcendance. But watch out, they take with one hand
what they give with the other."
"I've decided to cut back on how often I do drugs. I've been
tapering off for a month now. You'd be proud of me. I didn't even take
anything tonight. Not even caffiene."
"Get back in school kid. That head on your shoulders is too
damn good to work in that pizza place the rest of your life."
"I signed up for some classes at the community college this fall.
But something in my life is still so empty."
Zach placed his hand on Chad's knee, "Life is never empty. Life
itself is the opposite of emptiness."
For the first time that night, Chad really heard him, "Your really
here with me?"
"I will always be here with you."
"When you died, I thought that you would come visit me. I lost
faith after a while."
"You had things to do, I couldn't interfere."
"Why did you have to die?"
"You will understand some day. But you need to know this, I
didn't cease existing, I simply changed forms. I am boundless love and
my love for you will always be there. You can feel it any time you
choose, all you have to do is Remember."
"I'm not alone"
"Your not alone"
Zach got to his feet and pulled Chad to his. The walked back to the
center of the room and danced some more. There was so much joy in it.
The dance, the friendship, the room, the universe. It was all one and the
same.
As the sun came up, Zach slowed down, "Your ride is about to leave you
here."
"Come with us."
"I can't do that. Not in this form, but remember a part of me is
coming with you."
"Will I see you like this again?"
"If you want too. That is your choice."
"I want to."
"Try meditation. If you learn to astral project, I can show you
some incredible things."
"I'll get a book tomorrow."
"Bye Chad."
"Bye Zach," a small tear trickled down Chad's face.
Zach already felt a change of conciousness. It was more inclusive. He
was the room. Then he was the sky looking down at the room. Then the
Sun looking back at the Earth. Then the universe, experiencing
everything in it.
Finally, pure being. Pure joy. Pure love. Pure oneness.
From up there, the view was absolutely beautiful.
