i wander from face to face looking for familiarity
or some person to rest with.
this drink doesn't do what i'd hoped it would.
i ordered it to order you away
i try to send you to the background so that the other smiling faces can step forward and fill your void.
the last drink didn't work either.
as in reality, you refuse o be sent away.
instead, you sit next to me laughing at my follies, ordering another round.
we talk until the wee hours of the morning when our eyes are barely open and we're higher than the stars.
I explain all of this to you hoping to hear that you feel the same way.
but instead you say i've become a faceless voice on the machine, letters on a screen with no humanity. Just a memory, another address to receive a postcard.
but you are still real to me. In every drink and every smile, in every moment.
and this is why my heart breaks. and this is why i cry.
