so i went walking today.
with my discman, with my earphones plugged into my ears, with my heart; i walked.
stuttering beats, sharp claps, high high hats and twisted voices dogged my footsteps every step step step of the way. i walked on the streets and people looked at me, i wondered why but i was too fast for them; leaving a broken trail of lingering beats. in my mind i walked upon soundscapes too fast for the landscapes, my feet finding their rhythm in my mindscapes.
i looked around me, eyes moving in stereo but the music surrounded me, was within me; i could not lose it, i did not want to lose it. my heart in rhythm, my body in motion we beat a beat beat, we breathe... and we were alive.
plucking my cigerette from my ear, i tilted my head, lit my lighter inhaled exhaled a cloud of sweet smoke before my face, i walked into it, i walked through it in a dream of music. a bassline blistered in my ear, a horn sounded and echoed, a voice cried... feels so good/feels so good/feels so good...
feet cottoned in shoes of clouds, i walked afloat, buoyed by a bassline that bounced and galloped like a wave that ever crested and never, crashed.
i walked into a store and looked about me and not seeing for the music. a lady smiled, she waved and i returned the favour but my mind was walking the soundscape and i could not stop i could not be left behind, i had to keep moving, in my mind's eyes. i looked about me and saw shoes begging to be walked: i could not help, but wiggle my toes at them. i looked and could not see but hear, the call, to keep walking.
as i left, the lady mouthed a thank you and i looked into her eyes (that was all i saw, calling to me as well) which sparkled and smiled and i could not help but noticed her eyelashes and the fine lines around her eyes and so, i removed one earphone, and said, no, thank you (but i heed the call).
i continued walking, stepping on an ever-changing soundscape mindscape landscape mindscape soundscape surrounded was around all around me, i walked and walked with no end in sight but ahead i looked, always.
i walked the music, i walked passing lives who looked but not saw, who heard but not listened, i walked and left them all behind for the soundscape was moving and i was moving with it, always moving, always within, i could not lose nor did i want to lose it.
as it unfolded before my mind, i reached for it, a dying man's last gasp and i drank it in, drunk with music, heady with the rhythm of life; i found myself at peace in motion to music.
and so i went walking today.
