An example of how dumb some shrinks are

While I was in hospital, a psychiatrist talked to me about all the drugs I'm prescribed. He said that there was no reason why I should be on both clonazepam and diazepam, and, get this, he suggested that I completely stop the clonazepam (cold turkey) and just replace it with an extra 10mg's of diazepam. 10 fucking milligrams!? I would have laughed in his face if I hadn't been so angry. :X

It's fairly well known that 0.5mg's of clonazepam is equivalent to 10mg's of diazepam (see here), so if I stopped my clonazepam (I take 6mg's a day), I'd need to be on an extra 120mg's of diazepam! Not a measly 10! Needless to say, I refused his suggestion. I've been on clonazepam for 6 years, I'm wickedly dependant on it, and I'm not gonna let any doctor fuck around with my dose unless he actually knows what he's talking about! 8)

ROFL what a dumbass!

Honestly clonazepam does nothing positive for me, but it is a *very* potent benzodiazepine compared to diazepam, especially for people who get something positive out of Kpins.

6mg of clonazepam a day would NOT be easily covered by 10mg more of diazepam. That's asking for a seizure! What a retard! You should report him.

I am glad you stood up for yourself P!

I would prefer the actual equivalent in diazepam, but that's at least 120mg, not 10.

Clonazepam doesn't do much for me nowadays either (nor does the diazepam), but I'm continuing to take it as a maintenance dose. After the meeting, part of me thought I should have gone along with the doctor's suggestion - then, when I have a seizure a day or two later, I could prove to the doctor that I was right all along, and hold him personally responsible.

My doc made the opposite error. He overprescribed the diazepam when I was switched from clonazepam. I told him (the truth) that I could tell when the clonazepam was starting to wear off and I would feel better being on diazepam, with its long half-life and lingering metabolite.

My instinct that I would do better on diazepam proved to be correct so far except that the sedation is more pronounced.

I had a nurse (at a GP office) question why I was prescribed both (at the time) clonazepam and alprazolam. I still am Rxed alprazolam PRN. I told the nurse that there was no mistake in my prescription and if she had any questions, she was welcome to measure the spike in pulse I had from the bus ride there and my slight elevation in temper. :|

SP - this doc isn't worth risking your health for <3
