Anyone ever hear of a drug called AMT? Some people are claiming they use this stuff, but I'm starting to think that they are just getting the name confused.

aMT
it-290
alpha methyl tryptamine
(i haven't done it since the mid-70s... 35 mg felt like a cross between speed and mushrooms... lasted maybe 16 hours or longer...)
lotsa info at www.erowid.org & www.lycaeum.org
ken kesey supposedly called it the rolls royce of psychedelics...
ymmv...

please...do not let the DEA know "alot of people are doing it..."
while I can share your appreciation for an as-of-yet unscheduled substance, I think its a bit assinine to ask someone not to say 'alot of people are using it' on a public board.
Plenty of statements are made on a daily basis on this very bbs that are worse than that one as far as sending up red flags with agencies that make such decisions.

What I want to mention, and remind, while this is being discussed is that AMT is not just a tryptamine-psychedelic it is also an MAOI and should not be combined with ecstasy as it may cause neurotoxicity.

It amuses me that this compound is *legal* while its sister alphaethylT is outlawed in the US. The former is alot stronger, hence it is more hallucinogenic. I am not saying that someone should, but if they were going to try one of these they would be much *safer* taking the illegal one in this case.

why would it be any safer just because its illegal. AMT was used as a pharmacuetical anti-depressent in the 60's, been around longer than some illegal drugs.

does an maoi increase the chance of neurotoxicity when combined with e, or is it just the fact that it can cause serotonin syndrome?

From what I understand, MAOIs can cause damage because monoamineoxidase is what breaks down the drug, an MAOI will allow it to keep going long after your serotonin has been used up... sort of like a car that keeps running once its oil is all used up... For a better explanation and more detailed information, ask in Medical Q&A or search the FAQs
