Substance history:
(First time with aMT for all participants)
A: some experience, mainly amps/cathinones+threshold psychedelic doses. First proper trip. ~70kg
K: some experience, cannabis & MDMA. First time tripping. ~60kg
M: not known, although not new to drugs. First time tripping. ~67kg
C: somewhat experienced, too many substances to list here. 88kg
Other substances consumed:
C: Cannabis .2g dried leaf in joint at T+1:00
A,M: Alcohol (repeated), although they lost interest in beer by the time they were tripping.
Dosage: 4x 10mg allergy test + 3x 30mg “proper” dose
Set: I (C) informed the group ahead of time that they need to approach the substance with an open frame of mind, and passed round a copy of TiHKAL so that the others could read about it. Everyone very excited and geared up, looking forward to the experience.
Setting: Three well acquainted flatmates (A K C) and a (similarly acquainted) visitor (M). At home; trip began in a room full of triptoys. Saturday afternoon so no other commitments.
T-0:30
I measure out four 10mg doses and four 30mg doses on a precision scale. In hindsight, this may have been a bit on the high side.
T+0:00 (2:10pm)
All drop 10mg “allergy test” capsules. Watch Youtube for a little bit.
T+0:50
I was intending to drop after an hour, but oh well. Everyone feels more or less fine, so with the exception of K we all drop the 30mg doses. Hearing that a bit of weed deals with the nausea on the come-up, I roll and spark up. Nobody else partakes.
“Well, folks... welcome to the world of psychedelics!”
T+1:25
First alerts, a noticeable change in perception is becoming apparent (+). A is first to vomit. I feel fine; not even a hint of nausea at this point.
T+1:40
K and M throw up. Slight GI discomfort for me, but nothing worth vomiting over. The weed seems to have done its job.
T+2:00
Starting to climb to a peak. I get the recognisable start of a tryptamine trip; breathing walls, dancing letters and haloing around light sources. Music starts to overlap itself; different sounds seem to emboss onto each other and vocal tones meld into the background music.
T+2:20
I notice that my fellow trippers are starting to take on multiple expressions at once. Groovy! Some contradiction of thoughts starting to set in (both happy and sad), which continues to the end of the trip.
T+3:00
It had been snowing heavily (still was), so we decided to go walk out in the snow. Didn't feel the cold, but still cold. Some anxiety at being in a public place, but I put it to the back of my mind. Nearby there is a field with a tunnel leading into it. I'd been through this tunnel alone on shrooms (with no anxiety or foreboding, and on a warm autumn night) but it was something else on this substance. I lost my body and felt like a pure ball of existance floating through this tunnel. It seemed to go on forever. Looking back, it was a matter of 20 or so metres long but felt like miles. When we got through to the field the scene that laid before us was absolutely beautiful, one of the most stunning scenes I have seen in my entire life (at least, it seemed that way at the time!) The cars on a nearby bridge appeared like colony of ants working for their queen, and every light over the other side of the field twinkled with an intensity I had not seen before.
(At this point, I notice the trip comes and goes in waves, typically for tryptamines.)
T+WTF
The next 4 and a half hours are a bit of a blur. As far as I remember I was in a very special place with this substance, in a state of pure bliss and contentment with the world.
T+8:00 (approx)
That was a very MDMA-like rush, and something else. Wow. (Easy +++) The whole six hours I spent picking apart psytrance, instrument from instrument, note from note, I could almost visualise it being performed live. Extremely vivid CEVs & synaesthesia apparent; no OEVs save for a few very faint tracers and distortions. Time distortion is quite extreme; K reports time slowing down to the point of stopping.
T+8:30 (approx)
Out of the corner of my eye I notice a distraught K having some trouble. M and A are having a whale of a time with a laser pen, barely able to speak out of amazement. M&A being long time friends, me and K left them to it. She seems to appreciate the change of scenery, later revealing she “just knew” I was going to pull her out of her imminent bad trip. Peeing feels incredible, and K comes out of the toilet at one point with a look of bewilderment on her face.
T+9:10 (approx)
Two friends of mine come over to pick up some green, they don't stay long, but wish us good vibes on the trip. When talking to my weed guy he notices my pupils and nods and smiles in approval. He wants to buy half the G of aMT off me, but I can't comprehend what a gram is, or the concept of money, or that I've even taken anything.
On my return, earlier in the month I got one of the visiting friends the Shulgin books for Christmas; it's a belated present but he's overjoyed, gives me a big hug and I feel like the most amazing person in the world for a brief few moments. When they leave, I suddenly miss them but I know I'm probably going to see them again soon.
T+9:30 Time is starting to make a bit more sense now; I'm noticing the start of a very gradual, soft comedown. I spend the next three-four hours talking to K about some of the things she'd realised during the trip (most of which are not appropriate to list here). I explain to her Aldous Huxley's Mind at Large theory, and a look in her eyes tells me she “gets” the concept straight away. She also notices a child-like reversion in personality, which I definitely felt (as many aMT reports have stated, “I felt like I was five again!”). Interesting to note K is only on 10mg, yet tripping nearly as hard as us.
T+9:45 (approx)
M and A come downstairs, speechless, evidently having the same (less verbal) moment of profundity that me and K had spent the last 45 minutes having. Blank looks of “what the **** did I just experience?!” and stunned silence ensues.
T+10:00 Music starts to lose the profoundness and depth it had at the peak.
T+11:00 I try to sleep. And fail. Still feeling a slightly psychedelic headspace (at around a +) until around T+14:00.
T+14:00 Slept soundly until T+27:00, woke up with an appreciable afterglow. The others were still tripping pretty hard by this point. The sky outside is a beautiful peachy-orange tone as the light from the city hits the low-lying snow clouds.
After effects:
- Hangover, somewhat like alcohol or an amphetamine binge.
- Very sensitive, running fingers through my hair, on skin, soft fabrics etc. feels AMAZING.
- General “floaty disconnectedness” like after a heavy acid trip.
- Verbal memory issues lasting a few days. Took me a while to complete this report because of the blank spots in the night.
Conclusion:
I couldn't have picked a better substance for these three intrepid rookies to enter the world of psychedelics with. It is very gentle compared to, say, LSD, with a similar headspace but without the “extra kick”. Two days later, when they had recovered, they all had nothing but praise for the trip, expressing a definite interest in doing it again. It went down a storm.
Conversation was easy & free flowing, with a reduced need to “think before I speak”. I noticed an ability similar to 25i-NBOMe where it was possible to “turn off” the trip for a short time if necessary. If I had to compare aMT to another substance, rather than LSD or MDMA as many have suggested, I think it is more like a very long, less visual 25i trip.
That said, in the near future I will be introducing them to the classical psychedelics if they are interested; AMT is a great first psychedelic, but I can see why an more seasoned tripper would be somewhat underwhelmed.
EDIT:
- in a hazy moment, I forgot that I did almost vomit during the rush, but managed to hold it in quite well.
- A also informed me that they were still tripping hard at T+20.
