When I was in rehab, there were two guys in there with me who were schizophrenic and prescribed amphetamines. They also said it worked amazingly well for them, a lot better than the anti-psychotics. I forgot what amp they were on though... wish I could remember the name... but I know they took that during the day, then at night they were prescribed Seroquel (also an anti-psychotic, but without all of the crazy side effects and head fogginess that most other ones give you!) They would always go on and on about how great the combination was. I did notice that they were a lot calmer, and one of the guys definitely threatened to kill people or "become a serial killer" far less often than when he had just been taking the anti-psychotics he was on... I'd say it's worth a shot. Doesn't hurt to try anyway, what's the worst they could say? No? Good luck, hope you find some relief soon
EDIT: Oh wow, I just read through all of the responses. If it's that dangerous, it kind of sickens me that those guys were being prescribed amphetamines. Then again, I shouldn't be surprised. My rehab sucked ass, and once left a kid in the van overnight who had purposely tried to overdose. They wouldn't let him call the ambulance or anything... just made him stay in the van all night and whatever was gonna happen, was gonna happen. Thank God he was okay, but that place was shady. Still, if it's so dangerous, I'm curious as to why people with schizophrenia are so adamant towards amps being some type of miracle symptom eliminator/helper...? I suppose they could have been pretending it worked so well because the amps were getting them high and they wanted to hold on to their script... but whenever either of them would talk about it, they would say all the same things you did, OP. Like that it clears their head, makes them less angry/intense, more sociable, etc. Anyone care to share some ideas about this?
