Amphetamines - Preventing Physical Side Effects

Hi Everyone! I’m new here so if I’m violating any rules and/or am reposting redundant information, please feel free to let me know!

I have been prescribed Adderall off-label for about a year now. I have seen several posts on BL that give suggestions to keep your body healthy while on amps, but not much on keeping your physical appearance looking healthy. I do not have professional training in a related area, but through various sources and personal experimentation I have found a few ways to mitigate the physical symptoms that amps produce. Here are a few ways I keep myself look healthy while on amps.

Multivitamin – like many have mentioned on BL taking a quality daily multivitamin will help keep you as healthy as possible while taking amps. This also applies to your physical appearance. I have had good results taking a whole food multivitamin.

Omega 3s – different sources say that 1000mg to 2000mg of omega 3s daily helps your skin, hair, and nails. Some studies suggest they aid in heart and mental health, so taking a quality fish oil daily while on amps is most likely a good idea. I haven’t experienced any negative effects while taking them.

Shampoo/Conditioner – my hairdresser mentioned that buying a shampoo and conditioner with Keratin and other nutrients keeps your hair healthy. My hair has improved since using a keratin/nutrient shampoo and conditioner.
NOTE: If your hair is falling out due to amp use, then the one way that I know to (maybe) reduce this issue is to stop using. Seeing a doctor would likely help as well.

Body Wash – get one that is moisturizing and not too heavily scented, and also use a wash cloth to exfoliate your skin.

Face Wash – using one that contains salicylic acid and an exfoliating agent such as glycolic acid or different particles at least once daily will help keep your face looking normal.

Moisturizing Lotion – ever since using Accutane my face gets super dry, especially on amps. Using a light moisturizing lotion on your face and other parts of your body when you are dry can eliminate this discomfort and reduce skin damage. It is really important to do this after washing your face.

Toothbrush/Toothpaste – I tend to grind my teeth, so my dentist told me to use a soft toothbrush and an enamel protecting/building toothpaste. This of course will not totally eliminate the harm done to your teeth, but is much better than doing nothing. If I have been grinding my teeth a lot on a particular day, I VERY GENTLY brush my teeth for about a minute, then leave the toothpaste in my mouth for another minute. My dentist has noticed a slight improvement.

Deodorant – if amps make you stink, then wear deodorant! And of course shower daily. A little cologne/perfume also helps.

BB/CC Cream – some men (and even women) may have an issue with wearing makeup, but using a BB or CC cream after lightly moisturizing can make you look a little more normal. If you get a shade that matches your skin, then its nearly impossible to tell that you are wearing any makeup at all. CC cream in particular is anti-aging, further reducing and possibly reversing skin damage. I put some CC cream under my eyes and on my cheeks in the morning if I stayedvup all night doing homework; I look a little "unhealthy" if I don't. If you normally wear makeup, then do your usual routine unless it is causing further skin damage.

Protein Shakes – aids in maintaining your weight. Get one that has plenty of amino acids to keep your mind healthy as well.

DRINK WATER

Be aware of yourself while on amps – don’t pick at your skin. Period.

Lastly – eating healthy, exercising, and keeping a positive attitude go a long way in keep you physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy. :)

I hope this helps! If you have any more suggestions I would love to hear them.

Also, sorry that this is so long. Yay Adderall haha

I'm really confident there ought to be a thread in BDD that a moderator can merge this with; we've had way too many like-posts of this type to justify it being its own.
