Amphetamines + Heartrate + Fitness.

Thank you for taking the time to view my thread.

I've got a pretty simple question that often crosses my mind. Does someone's fitness (I know that's very unspecific and subjective) level have a direct relation to how much an Amphetamine dose will raise their heart rate? I have literally been told by people, that elite athletes are so fit that their resting heart rate can get so dangerously low, so they have to actually make an effort to get it beating harder. Whether that's bullshit or not, it's an interesting thing to know. I myself have a Dexamphetamine prescription and get really worried when I *think* my heart rate gets to 3+ beats per second, whether while on them or not. So if I can do something about it, I'm going to start sprint-skipping daily to try reverse the negative effects of my Amphetamine dose that will likely follow when I feel like partying later that day or night.

What I do know is that amphetamines are excellent for inducing anxiety and panic attacks - often making people worry about heart rate.

It's true a large, well-trained athlete might have a heart rate that in a normal person would be considered low, he's probably still got the same blood pressure as the tall gangly kid who sits in his basement. The athlete's heart is just much stronger.

How much dexamphetamine are you taking? If you're under 20mg a day I thyink you're fine. Also, have you considered magnesium supplementation?

sekio brings up a good point. We can't give you a complete answer just from heart rate and blood pressure numbers. There are lots of other factors to consider. Amphetamines can and do cause panic attacks in some people, and a common symptom of panic attacks is a racing heart.

For a person with no tolerance or a low tolerance (or a person who has pre-existing issues with anxiety), I recommend staying below 20-25mg of dextroamphetamine a day.

Well, I only get worried because I still have a bit of PTSD from a night (which turned into a week from a single dosage!) in which I massively overdosed on Meth, after taking Acid... Generally I'm fine, but some days 'the fear' still gets to me. I'll only take 5mg, up to 10mg at the most generally. Any more than that and I'll likely have a Panic Attack from past experiences. It's taken me until now to even be able to handle that... I literally was forced by my mind/body to quit all drugs entirely, as EVERYTHING induced an instant Panic Attack after that night-turned-week. I wont get too much into that though, it's a long story.

It would give me the mental reassurance (anti-panic attack) to know that my heart was strong and fit; especially if I could get it to be naturally lower and essentially almost begging for stimulation.

By the way, I do take Multi-Vitamins when I can afford them, which of course have Magnesium in them. I've never taken it specifically though, but I do have some Epsom Salts laying around, if they will do. Could you elaborate on the benefits?

Thanks Sekio!

Magnesium seems to help reduce the development of tolerance to amphetamines, as well as reducing some the negative side effects (particularly muscle tension and jaw-griding). I use a magnesium oxide supplement when I take Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine) and it completely knocks out the jaw tension and lower back pain that I normally get when taking Dexedrine. Make sure you're staying hydrated, amphetamines dehydrate you and make you forget about the fact that you're thirsty so you'll probably have to force yourself to drink some water, but, you'll notice that if you do stay hydrated, you'll have less negative side effects.

But yes, an anxiety attack can happen if you take lots of speed. Dextroamphetamine and methamphetamine are quite similar drugs when it comes to effects, but methamphetamine is considerably longer-acting. Methamphetamine is considered to be the more neuro-toxic of the two.

I quickly read up about Magnesium supplementing through Wikipedia, but the benefits explained seemed geared towards those looking to have fancy-bath's haha. But I have heard before that it can help reduce tolerance building and the aches, but I don't suffer from them so much and my tolerance is in no way high these days as you'd probably agree. It's good to hear it from someone who knows their stuff though!

I am well aware that Methamphetamine is widely considered more Neuro-toxic, and I'm under the impression 30mg or less of Dexamphetamine isn't likely to cause many, if any, long-term mental issues (so long my anxiety is in check, that is). I definitely regret becoming far too familiar with Methamphetamine though...

I have a feeling now that my anxiety is probably going to be a main factor of a heart attack if I ever have one. I notice my heart go up, sometimes even beat irregularly; that is, when I become worried about it and think about whether or not it's high and irregular. Most of the time I'll only get what I can distinguish as an irregular heart beat while hyperventilating and taking massive, literally chest-cracking breaths. But I try to use will-power and not-that-reliable techniques to only take normal breaths when that issue arises, although at the time it feels like I'm holding my breath almost... Will power will ween my mind out of it in time, I hope. Until then, I'll build my confidence with knowing that I am in good health, so I can convincingly tell myself "it's all in my head" if I panic.

I have issues with anxiety (diagnosed with anxiety disorder and on benzodiazepine therapy, go figure) and I use amphetamines (specifically dextroamphetamine) a few times a week. What you're describing sounds like a textbook anxiety attack.

I would reduce your amphetamine dosage or consider speaking to a doctor about your panic attacks. If they're only happening when you take amphetamines, then you may want to consider stopping amphetamine use completely.

I used to be able to take ANYTHING in any non-lethal amount, and suffer almost no anxiety. Everything changed after a very large dose of Methamphetamine (although I had done it many times before that with no noticeable side effects). I don't even take Dexamphetamine daily, generally only when I feel like a rush of energy of some intense studying. I've come a long way in the last 6 months, I feared I wouldn't even be able to drink Coffee again, but now I can have a cup and only get mild anxiety instead of a "I'm going to die" panic attack. It's this progress that convinces me that if I can convince myself my hearts fine, well, I'm okay and it's all in my head... So time to man up.

I do have a Benzo prescription (Diazepam), but I generally avoid it unless absolutely necessary. Too many nights abusing them in the past, so I'm sort of bored of the feeling, believe it or not.

I can understand that. A lot of doctors prescribe a cocktail of amphetamines with a lower dosage of a benzo (although this can lead to addiction to both substances), have you tried a small diazepam dosage on top of taking the Dexedrine?

I know where you're coming from when it comes to taking uppers and studying. Nothing like pounding out a ten page speed fueled paper in two hours. :)

I have quite a lot of experience with Amphetamine doses combined with small amounts of Benzo's, but I don't like to be reliant on something for Anxiety. I'm trying to be naturally anxiety-free, that is, even while taking other substances. I'd rather monitor one addiction and set of side effects than two, basically. At the same time though, I just LOVE it when Amphetamines don't make me feel Anxious, they are so effective for me! :)
