Sometimes I feel nauseous when I'm on Amphetamines (prescribed Dexedrine IR). Also, I sometimes get a stomach ache. Are these common side effects of Amphetamine?

Sometimes I eat very little or less when I'm on Amphetamines.

Is it because I eat very little or less that I get nausea and stomach ache?

What should I do to prevent/treat nausea and stomach ache?

yeah most likely its from not eating enough. thats just what amphetamines do though they surpress your appetite. if you can try to eat a little before you take your dexedrine

I understand the stomach ache side effect as a result of eating less or not eating, due to the Amphetamine appetite suppression.

However, I don't understand the nausea side effect of Amphetamine (especially Dexedrine IR). What is the science/reason? Is it related to not eating well/enough and appetite suppression as well? Will eating before/well prevent/treat the nausea as well?

Well, amphetamines increase dopamine levels, which stimulates your "vomiting centre" aka chemoreceptor trigger zone in the medulla in the brain. This has receptors for various chemicals and responds to their presence by causing nausea +/- vomiting. The chemoreceptor trigger zone has opioid receptors too and is partly responsible for opioid nausea (the other factor is opioids causing the GI tract to slow down) and also has serotonin receptors.

The other possible contributing factor is that stimulants increase the activity of your "fight or flight" nervous system (called the sympathetic nervous system) which causes many of the amphetamine side effects we all know - pupil dilatation, energy, increased body temperature.. it also diverts blood away from the GI tract so more is available for the muscles and brain, hence not feeling hungry and possibly contributing to the nausea as well.

I get bad indigestion and stomach aches from amphetamines also. I buy "Gas X" at the drug store and they help me feel a lot better. Sometimes I eat a few Tums also.

For the nausea, when I do feel it, I use cannabis.

Cannabis is excellent for nausea :)

I'm a big fan of ginger too, I like crystalised ginger but ginger and lemon tea is more easily accesible and does the job..

Tums/rennies/antacids definitely help too, even if you are feeling nauseated but no indigestion :)
