Amphetamine Phenomenon With Neurological Disorder

I was wondering what difference between a cramp and dystonia is?

In very broad terms a cramp is due to an electrochemical issue in the periphery, while dystonia is a more central issue involving the central motor pathways in the basal ganglia.

Some reading on the D1/D2 involvements in motor function and the direct/indirect motor pathways:

That's what I thought, but I couldn't find a site that said so specifically.

The most notable effects of the manganese poisoning on me, In terms only of my neuromuscular system is a great stiffening of the muscles in my right leg and a general slowing. I get the dystonia in my face (the muscles in cheeks will 'seize up' and pull my smile funny, in my feet where my toes will get pulled under, and most painfully, in my thigh. Perhaps because it's the largest muscle, but when that one goes it hurts like hell. I've learned little tricks that I can use to stop it from happening if I catch it in time. If I wait too long there's nothing I can do, but a quick change of position or putting my hand on the opposite muscle affected at the time will usually stop the muscle from seizing.

Does anyone else just get random bouts of muscle stiffness and dystonia?

Every 4-6 months or so, my RLS will start getting worse and worse to the point that it starts happening all day and then that will escalate to my muscles (especially my legs) becoming so sore and so stiff that I'm in tears because of the pain.

I've gone to doctors before, had x-rays done, etc, and they can never find anything phsyically wrong with me. And yet, I'm in a great deal of pain. So much pain, In fact, that I can barely walk. It's horrible. In fact, my short lived addiction to Hydrocodone was caused by one of these episodes.

It's odd too, because as soon as I take an opioid for the pain, that terminates the episode. I'm not sure what I would call this, but there doesn't appear to be anything phsyically wrong with me, and coincidentally, I'm already diagnosed with two disorders that are thought to be caused by a deficiency in dopamine.

Also, I should mention - my last episode of what I described above has been almost.....9 months ago.

I thought I felt one coming on last month, but that's (ironically) right when I was I was prescribed Temazepam for sleep.

BUMP/UPDATE

Alright, while looking into this, I can say I don't remember finding any thing of significance or notable as far as amphetamine goes but I did see some surprising info on Ritalin.

Ritalin is used to treat tics, notably in Tourette's syndrome and also for the treatment of blepharospasm, well at the very least it was studied for effectiveness and appeared to be relatively useful.

Now tics and blepharospasm are both components of my neurological disorder consisting of primarily dystonia. Now seeing that while not amphetamine but a similar drug is being notably used for these conditions, it makes me think it may be a viable option.

Not sure what leads to Ritalin being the path driven for this condition in comparison to amphetamine, knowing it is much more mild, maybe that is it? I don't know... Any one who may have a theory or who is just knowledgeable and in the know, please fill me in.

What do yall think about exploring this option for occasional symptom relief? I know these drugs are double edged sword, I mean they all are, but I know these in particular are notable for worsening or even causing neurological disorders. Sounds like it may work for me, I don't know....
