Hi,

I have been taking Dexamphetamine prescribed by a doctor for most of my life.
One strange thing I have noticed is when taking a dose during the day (5-10mg), the next day after sleeping, in the morning I will feel burnt out which is normal for me, but during the afternoon I will seem to feel manic and feel as if i had taken a small dose. I will also notice pupil dilation at around this time when i feel like this. I believe the half-life for amphetamine is around 10-15h and by then the effects of the drug will have surely worn off, so it is confusing to me as to why this would happen.

Has anyone had any similar experiences or any thoughts as to the reason behind this?

I've experienced the same sort of "rebound stimulation" occasionally after using amphetamines. My line of thinking is that it's just your dopamine receptors becoming more sensitive because of exposure to amphetamine

I've had this happen to me a few times but I don't know why it happens to be honest

Stimulants, particularly in those who have an attention disorder, can calm one down, and in many cases on bl actually make one fall asleep. Also, there is an ongoing study investigating amphetamine as a medicine for some with bipolar disorder, not unlike bupropion. As I said, people with attention problems like me feel mellow and relaxed, with small pupils after their dose kicks in. I also have bipolar and it works better than anything, and I do get excited when it wears off. And the half-life you quoted sounds pretty high.

The half life of dexamphetamine/dextroamphetamine/Dexedrine is 10-12 hours, although this can be reduced to around 7-8 hours if your urine's pH is lower than 5.6 (and of course can be increased to 18+ hours if your urine is alkaline/high pH) [source]. So half life of (dex)amphetamine can fluctuate considerably from person to person and from time to time even for the same person.

Normal because you've had lunch. Eating lots of food has many effects, it raises the stomach-intestine pH, provides body with nutrients etc. so it's normal to notice a potentiation especially when you are exhausted from your use the day before.

When the body is exhausted, additional doses have little to no effect but if you somehow manage to eat a large meal it all comes out in a huge potentiation peak. It's like the medication waits there and is released when nutrients are available but this is only a metaphor.
