okay so they obviously give bupe and methadone for opioid dependence, is there any kind of drug treatment for methamphetamine/coke ?
would they prescribe Ritalin short term? or is there any options?

Honestly the come down isn't nearly as bad as an opiate WD. Id just use xanax and if your a frequent user a anti depressant to help regulate your Seratonin and dopamine levels :/

Smoke some herb to dupe yourself. I get weird urges from time to time. I just try to suppress the urge to go out and buy it. Remember you can always buy more whenever you want it. To not buy, is an action.

I would stay away from all type of uppers. I weened myself from meth by using coke. When I ran out of money I just ended up smoking herb. Herb saved my life.

herb is more expensive then getting dope. all you gotta do is get a box from walgreens which is like under 13 dollars and get 50 dollars worth of dope for trading it, but yeah I gotta stay away from the shit it wasn't helping in the long run. never really liked weed though. its lameeeeee

yeah but shits bad for you gotta be smart, and you know whats good for you because your trying to figure out what could help but sleeping it off xanax and some green thats really al that could possibly do.... But I got dip out of this bish... Ive been sitting on this computer for like 24 hours straight >.< But if I don't sleep like I doubt I will ill be back later and ill ask my friend what her BF did to get off the shit cause he was going at it hard for yeeeeears!

I think you'll find that while benzodiazepines (like Xanax) do affect serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine, that their effects come primarily by increasing the efficiency of GABA (hence why they calm you down). So they are good for anxiety / sleep etc but don't address the fundamental issue when withdrawing from speed.

So what does? I'm only talking about amphetamine here, but I find the supplement Citicoline helps keeps my cravings under control. Easy to find on the web. One of the problems with coming off speed is dopamine, or a lack thereof. You could also check out the following thread for some other's ideas how to boost dopamine.

Ritalin / ethylphenidate / methylphenidate are no good for withdrawals because 1) its a analogue of amphetamine and your body reacts in a similar manner (I know I love them more than speed) and 2) it is often used to cut speed (so you're probably already taking and getting high off it without even knowing it).

Instead of Ritalin a much better option (in my case) to address a lack of concentration is either Armodafinil or Modafinil. These work by affecting slightly different parts of your brain to promote 'wakefulness' without leaning on the exact same area as speed. Even better, they are easy to get either prescription or via the internet.

That's my experience, I hope that helps.

I have a friend of mine that's getting off speed and his dopamine is getting low. He's talking about depression, sadness, and loneliness. I have him on the spiritual path and he's eating it up (I'm not referring to Christianity. I'm talking about having spirituality in general). Seems to work. You need to have some sort of motivation that's there with you all the time. Something to keep you going.

Hope and wish the best for you my friend.

Dexamphetamine was the only thing they would consider prescribing here (UK) and then having considered it the answer was always 'no'. I think a few places offer naltrexone for the craving/maintainence side of things but I wouldn't touch that if I were you. So nope, no medical intervention routinely available.

Gabapentin and lyrica are used sometimes to treat amp addiction/coke but it's mostly for a mood stability type treatment and drug craving inhibitor . As posted before, speed addiction withdrawal isn't nearly as physical as opiate w/d and doesn't require a ton of medication to push through detox .

yes, lower potency stimulants have been used to treat amphetamine dependance (eg. bupropion, dexamp). you could argue though that they are just replacing one dependency for another and should only be used as maintenance drugs. leaving a drug and it's substitutes is fine, replacing an illicit and potent drug for another drug which is easily attainable, legal, and dispensed under a doctors supervision is also fine. deciding which one would improve your quality of life the most is up to you.

homeless -> sober living

Can you go to a treatment place for outpatient rehab? That's what some of my friends did who have been addicted to meth. They did it more for the counseling and therapy. They also went to AA/NA not as a lifetime thing but just as a way to get sober and stay sober for short periods of time like the first decade.

Also, talking to a doctor and telling him/her what is happening and that you want to get sober will help.

I asked them and they said that smoking herb was not good because it just eventually got them used to being high, and then they wound up using meth again.

If you're addicted to meth or coke be careful that you do not get addicted to amphetamines. My friends that were addicted just drink caffeine and don't take dex/adderall/Ritalin.

Good luck.
