I don't know why Amineptine gains such a bad reputation, it's a cyclic AD, but works by inhibiting the Re uptake of Dopamine.
The reason, which I read from browsing internet,is it's being abuse as stimulant.
Protriptyline and Desipramine, being secondary Amines, desipramine being a metabolite of Imipramine, is also considered as being stimulating, Protriptyline has a stronger stimulating effect, both affecting the inhibiting of Noradrenaline reuptake.
Compared to dexamphetamine and methylphenidate, which works via dopamine and other various catecholamines, Amineptine is considered a "cleaner action" drug, specifically affecting Dopamine in particular.
I can't understand why it's been discontinued, with reason being stimulant of cyclic AD, while Adderall and Ritalin which are stronger in action are still widely prescribed.
Any input is appreciated. And has anyone used Amineptine?
