They're not talking about illegal opiates here. The US's use of illicit opiates(about ~.5% of the population) is greater than the world's average. But it's not nearly as high as a few other countries(Iran's is about 2%), most of them in the middle east, and some in Asia.

Check out the 2008 World Drug Report if you're interested in those types of stats.
 
I would have guessed the US consumes 100% of the world's hydrocodone. Where else is hydrocodone a popular painkiller?
 
I like hydrocodone. Along with heroin and oxycodone. I loved hydro's when I was younger. I used to take those n percs all the time then eventually moved up to heroin n ocs, but I did at once point enjoy hydrocodone when I didn't need to exceed the max. intake of acetaminophen.
 
That makes sense. I do 1/3 of the world's drug supply... you guys mop up the other 1/3... there's your 2/3's right there. ;)

P.S.

I think of it like this. Everything I smoke, snort, eat, shoot up my ass... that's one more such and such evil substance that won't fall into the hands of our precious white youth. I'm a fucking hero!

not suprising, opiates are kinda unheared off in my area (belguim) on the board i also only hear americans raving about opiates

I think it's too obvious for that to be the only drive.

1. Declare "War on Drugs"
2. Prescribe legal and inferior drugs
3. Allow poisonous drugs, such as tobacco and alcohol, to feed the medical-industrial complex
4. Spread propaganda designed to fail, leading to drugs being a desirable taboo
5. Feed the prison-industrial-complex with poor people that sell drugs by necessity
6. Impose sanctions and influence nations under the guise of a "War on Drugs"
7. Repeat steps 2 thru 6
