Amend the RAVE Act Petition

My name is Dede Goldsmith. On August 31, 2013, my daughter, Shelley, died of heat stroke at an electronic dance music (EDM) concert in Washington D.C. after taking MDMA. Her death was partly the result of a dated law from 2003 called the RAVE Act that prevents safe settings at EDM events. Please join me in signing this petition. It is time for a “safety first” approach to drug use that includes harm reduction measures along with current law enforcement efforts.

Dear Members of Congress,

I urge you to enact legislation to amend the 2003 Illicit Drug Anti-Proliferation Act (aka the RAVE Act) to ensure that music venue owners and event organizers can implement common sense safety measures to protect their patrons and reduce the risk of medical emergencies, including those associated with drug use, without fear of prosecution by federal authorities.

As the law currently stands, many owners and organizers are reluctant to institute such measures, fearing they may be accused of “maintaining a drug involved premises” under the Act, and thus opening themselves to criminal or civil prosecution. Clarifying the original intent of the Act will ensure that the Act can no longer be misinterpreted in ways that jeopardize public safety.

Respectfully,
(your signature)

I still remember when this was enacted. I believe it stands for "Reducing Americans' Vulnerability to Ecstasy" Act.

If you go to raves or EDM festivals and don't know what this ridiculous piece of legislation is, you should look it up for a good laugh. It lists things such as specific BPM's, presence of glow sticks, presence of menthol items, chill out room etc as things that may indicate a "drug involved premise" and gives law enforcement the right to shut down events and arrest promoters if the above are present. This is the reason most events are not allowed to have chillout or cool off rooms.

Terrible piece of legislation. You can thank our Vice President for this piece of shit law, fucking douche bag.

Actually I take that back I will sign it. And thanks to whoever put this petition up it's about time the rave act got amended

Given I'm not a citizen of the USA, would me attempting to sign this petition have any value? lol

Do they consider every variety of poi paraphernalia or only the glow sticks?

Sure brother...if you're in this country legally(or even now illegally for that matter lol) then your signature counts as much as anyone elses. You just can't vote;)

I can't vote either,so don't feel left out. Been in this country legally for 36 years, but I have to pay over $1000 for my citizenship? Not fair...

I wholeheartedly support this! Everybody please sign...its the lack of education and compassion by our lawmakers thats killing kids just trying to have a good time.

I agree and disagree. Ignorance (lack of education) is how the flawed Drug Wars happened. Our society falsely thought having what they want required prohibition of a lot of drugs. They then continued prohibition into the the tragic extreme experienced now. I think we are learning the solution could involve the decriminalization or recreational drugs. We have already proven many people with debilitating illness could survive better someday if psychedelic therapy is used.

Our lawmakers don't lack compassion, though perhaps they pursued tough on crime policies because this feels right (and is wrong). The biggest issue is ignorance. Petitions such as this communicate the truth and educate lawmakers. Also our behavior as drug users and our actions in educating our peers have potential in either direction.

Our lawmakers don't lack compassion,

most of them directly steal from the poorest and/or hardest working honest good people that pay taxes, for bribes. they also kill innocent people for bribes constantly on the other side of the world. maybe they have compassion, but 2 million in your account tomorrow is just too much for most people to say no to.

In one simple word i'll give you the reason why laws like this law exist: CHRISTIANITY , it makes for a great excuse to destroy society and take bribes at the same time.
