Noticed this recently while browsing amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info

If you're a student, you get amazon prime for free as I understand it. All you need is a valid .edu email account to actually verify that you're a student.

Sounds pretty good to me (free 2-day shipping? Yes please). I think I may hold off for a little while longer until the ISBNs for my textbooks come out so I can use this service next year.

I assume this is just for the US?

Neither of my student email accounts end in .edu... in fact I don't think any of Canada's universities have an .edu website...

Jam, yeah, unfortunately you have to be in the U.S. and have the .edu address.

Conditions

To sign up for and use Amazon Student, you must (1) have an Amazon.com account, (2) be a college student actively enrolled in at least one course at a college geographically located in one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, (3) be able to provide proof of enrollment upon request and (4) have a valid e-mail address that contains the domain suffix .edu.

I'm also assuming that the prime benefits don't extend to used booksellers who use amazon as a broker of sorts.

At any rate... I order plenty of books from amazon that the local B&N and borders don't stock, so I should get good use out of this.

BEWARE!!

That the service is free for your first year only and will automatically renew (and charge you $79) after your year expires. I'm still prolly gonna sign up, but I'll have to refuse the upgrade in membership before it dings me for the $79.

Very nice! I'll be starting at my university soon so I need to be as frugal as possible (yeah right, lol)

I actually signed up for their free trial of Prime a while back (was it a year long trial? I don't even remember!) and cancelled a few days too late--Amazon refunded me anyway. :)

Ah, so it was a year! It cost me $79 after the trial as well, but again, they were kind enough to refund it.
