Am I reading this correctly about butabital?

meh.. they gave me that crappy fioricet for an abcess the other day.. haven't really touched it.. but I took 1 tablet yesterday.. 40 mg butabital in it... today I want to drink a few beers. but being the cautious person that I am I noticed that the half life on butabital is actually 35 hours!!!!!8o

so does that really mean I can't drink beer tonight?.....cause I never felt an effect from the fioricet nor do I feel one now.. enlighten me on this please..

That's an interesting choice for an abscess!

Half-life can be misleading. It is purely related to elimination of the drug; the duration of action the drug depends on what the threshold blood concentration is needed for the drug to exert it's effects as well as the half-life..

I would wait longer to be on the safe side. Alcohol and barbituates can be a deadly combination, not worth the risk IMO..
 
I got those for migraines, didnt do shit recreationally and made the migraines go away for an hour tops, just made me a bit drowsy taking more than prescribed. I dont know your tolerance or weight, etc. but if it were me, Id be fine taking that and having a few beers.

EDIT: I am not a doctor and I am just stating how it would be for me. You could have a totally different reaction. Anyways, what prescription have you seen that doesnt have "Dont drink alcohol while using these" or "use caution while drinking alcohol"...
 
They are commonly prescribed as a migraine treatment, although I've never heard of them being prescribed for an abscess.

effie is right, mixing barbs and alcohol is not like mixing benzos and alcohol. The dose curve is much, much, MUCH steeper.

I would play it safe and not drink tonight.
 
^ you're right, a lot do, but with barbituates it isn't just a casual warning - it can be fatal. The OP may well be fine but it is very irresponsible to say that the definitely will be when you are talking about a potentially lethal combination. Barbituates are especally bad, as they can cayse amnesia, plus the impaired judgement with alcohol - it really isn't a wise combination..

I drink 2 32's.. aka 64 ounces of Milwaukee beast, I took 1 fioricet yesterday at 2 pm.. I am thinking about assaying a sample of 5-meo-mipt, any suggestions?
 
The butalbital in the Fioricet may reduce the effects of the 5-Meo-MIPT, but that's probably it. There may be no difference in the effect, to be honest I'm not completely sure.
 
it was yesterday and only one pill with a little bit of tylonol, caffiene and 40 mg butalbital.. the beer is gone.. think I'll eat something and take a nap.... then evalulate my sample at a later time

I never say he'd definitely be fine, I said he could have a totally different reaction. Just like most of us downer junkies could take 200mg of oxycodone and feel okay when that could easily kill the average person with no tolerance. I was just stating i was fine when I use to take 80mg of fioricet a day for 6 months and drank moderately 4-5 times a week on top of it and never had any problems, except that once in awhile Id have to just walk back to my dorm and fall asleep. Oh to be young again.
 
Years ago I got hold a bunch of Fiornal w/codeine . All I remember is waking up on the bathroom floor . =D
 
Yeah it never did anything for me unless I took like 3, but then Id only feel relaxed for ten minutes as if I took a soma before falling asleep.

EDIT: didnt notice the codeine part. Took 15 of the 30mg ones one time, had to do a CWE, but I felt great for several hours, back before I really had a habit. Codeine always gives me the worst itch though, but at least Im one of those who enjoy the itch.

I know you didn't, was just explaining myself :)

The problem is if someone skims the thread and sees that someone did it and was okay, maybe doesn't even notice the doses, and takes a lot more and is not okay.. but you did put a disclaimer in, I wasn't getting at you at all, just making it clear that although sometimes it's okay it isn't always going to be :)

lol.. the pill was yesterday... the alcohol is long gone..

in hindsight it sucked being 3 beers in and reading that it had a 35 hour half life lol

but twas all okay and now I am feeling quite magical due to this 5-meo-mipt
