I am 19 years old, male, about 5ft 12, and weight about 8st 5. I am quite underwieght i know, and can't put on any at all. I am rarely hungry, eating is often a chore.

When i look in the mirror i can see i'm skinny, and i don't like the way i look, but not rediculosly so. However I noticed recently after using ketamine (after the peak) when i look at my torso in the mirrow it looks really really horrible skinny and underweight, and this is quite disturbing. I am wondering weather my normal sight (non ket) is actaully a false view, and the drug is letting me see my real body shape ( i am not 'tripping' just a bit groggy and ketamised).

Isn't anorexia where you view you boday as 'fatter' than it actually is? Any advice is appreciated

Thanks

The whole thing is a spectrum, it's hard to say if somebody is anorexic or not just from their height and body weight.

Ask yourself:

Do you often consider yourself overweight, despite what other people tell you?
Do you think people may make judgements about you based on your body image frequently?
Do you find yourself worrying about your body image regularly?

If the answer is yes to any of those, you might be anorexic, but it's hard to say.

Learn about nutrition, you really need to intake certain things to live healthily, if eating is always a chore you might not be getting the nutrients you need.
Learn to enjoy food, eat what you enjoy.

I'd be surpried if you couldn't gain weight from 8st 5 if you tried though, and the mere fact that you know your body weight so precisely does indicate something...

Anorexia is a disease of the mind, not of the body. Remember that :)

Btw your avatar looks quite worryingly like how I dance :o

No you are absolutely not anorexic. You are underweight. Anorexia is when when you believe that you are fat, even if you are not. Or that you are thin but fat 'for you' and obsess over everything you put into your mouth, exercise as much as possible and put your heart and soul into the numbers which appear on the scale. When you reward yourself for lost weight, and punish yourself for gained wieght via fasting, excessive exercise or laxatives.

You are not even a bit anorexic.

By the sounds of things you know you are underweight and want to gain some weight. This is the opposite of anorexia. I wouldnt worry about what you look like on ketamine, I know when Ive taken the drug and looked in the mirror I always think I look weird and gross. The drug changes your perception of things, I wouldnt think into it too deeply.

But If you want to gain weight healthily, there are definately things you can do. Look into bodybuilding and doing weights. That includes eating alot of healthy foods. Remember, Anyone can gain or lose weight if they are determined enough. It does take some hard work though.

I wouldnt say that ketamine would show you what you "truly" look like or anything. Its probably more that you were somehow dehydrated or something from the drug and maybe more sucked up than usual? I have never personally done ketamine so correct me if Im wrong, but Ive found a lot of stuff like that makes you sucked up..I know when I did crack cocaine I would be noticably skinnier by the morning time. Maybe its something similar?

If you want to gain weight its gonna take some effort but there is plenty of good info on here *and the rest of the web* of how to do it in a healthy way. :)

According to the DSM IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Ed.), the diagnostic criteria for anorexia nervosa is as follows:

A. Refusal to maintain body weight at or above a minimally normal weight for age and height (e.g., weight loss leading to maintenance of body weight less than 85% of that expected; or failure to make expected weight gain during period of growth, leading to body weight less than 85% of that expected).

B. Intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat, even though underweight.

C. Disturbance in the way in which one's body weight or shape is experienced, undue influence of body weight or shape on self-evaluation, or denial of the seriousness of the current low body weight.

D. In postmenarcheal females, amenorrhea, i.e., the absence of at least three consecutive menstrual cycles. (A woman is considered to have amenorrhea if her periods occur only following hormone, e.g., estrogen, administration.)

I think that B is an important one.
To the original poster, do you have an intense fear about gaining weight and becoming fat?

If you really want to gain weight go get some of those supplements body builders use. Maybe ask in the steriods forum?

Thanks for the replys guys. Yea i think im being paraniod and im just a skinny as fuck! Ketamine generally makes people look horrible too so it makes sense (the 'sucked up' look like MynameisnotDeja was saying). yeh im just gonna try put some weight on, start eating better and crap. Thanks again guys

You sound like me..
you are thinking of Anorexia Nervosa when in reality what you have is simply anorexia, anorexia is definded as a lack of hunger..

My wieght varies between 95 and 110, im a male and im 5'6".. I smoke marijuana once in the morning and 1-3 times in the afternoon/evening just so i can have at least 2 decent sized meals a day..

^hmm the people above do not agree. I do not think anorexia is a 'lack of hunger'. mabey were just skinny as fook
