The country with the world's most prisoners.
So I used to drink a lot of beer but now I get a hangover from just a few natty ice. I can drink tons of wine and liquor no problem. The only symptom I get from the beer is that the next day I feel exhausted, my head hurts, and I feel a bit on the sick side. I don't know if I'm allergic to something in the beer or what but I guess I'll have to stick to my whiskey. Anyone experience anything weird like this?

Yes. That happened to me. I can't even drink anymore, it makes me hungover so easily now. If it's only happening with beer, it could be that particular beer - does it have gluten in it for example? You can get sensitive to things over time.

Beer, of all alcoholic beverages, is particularly prone to give me headaches, and I'm not allergic to gluten... It has gotten worse with advancing age (I'm almost 46). So you're not alone having issues w/ beer. Pisses me off cos I enjoy beer a lot, but cant drink much of it unless I've got some kind of scheduled opioid to treat the ensuing pain... Cerveza gives me head pains on a par w/ migraines. So I'll have wine or rum instead now.

My mom has a slight allergy to hops and get the same kind of effects. Very mild and manageable but still noticeable.

most likely you had an empty stomach

Have you tried a different, maybe better brand? a microbrew maybe? Gluten is a good guess too, have you had trouble consuming any sorts of wheat? If youve been drinking steady every day for a while you might just need a break to detox a bit

As with any drug, if you abuse it, the negative effects begin to outweigh the positive.

This man speaks the truth.

@OP, you could have something like IBS? I have severe GI disorders and the doctors do not allow me to drink ETOH anymore because I get sick for like 3 days after drinking even the smallest amount of alcohol.

^ HAHA!
Rather than bud why not grab some nice bottled craft beers that are brewed locally?

You may have developed an allergy. Lipid Transfer Proteins could be the cause. They are the trigger for many food allergies.
I had similar symptoms with beer, also the next day, but with diarrhea, and that was only from 1 - 2 beers. It can't be the alcohol, because I can tolerate mixed drinks fine. Wine has similar symptoms for me. Try drinking only distilled spirits and see if you have the same reaction.

Any type of "ice" beer affects me badly. See how you fare with just the regular stuff.

Natty ice? Gross. Hah.

You know you're a high class drinker when Budweiser is a step up for you. Haha.
Seriously...and I thought I was cheap. It is technically possible to form new allergies to things over time. What I would do is get some higher quality beers and compare their ingredients/try them to see which effect you worse than others or if they all do.

Top shelf beer does it to me too. I used to be able to drink 12-20 ice beers and feel fine. Also for those talking shit about natty, alcohol is alcohol. I would rather buy the cheapest alcohol possible and have money for real drugs than spend all my check on fancy bullshit that doesn't get me any more drunk. Sorry i don't like IPA's and other sissy beers.

That is true of 100% distilled product. It is not true of naturally brewed products.

In the case of ice beers, they undergo a process (freeze distillation) which in my opinion would increase the concentration of compounds that you don't want in beer (congeners, fusels, yeast byproducts, etc.) and may be the cause of the hangovers you are experiencing.

This is also true of some other brewing processes out there, such as high gravity brewing. You may have heard about the "watering down" lawsuit recently against AB, which is funny because high-gravity brewing, the process of brewing a strong beer and then watering it down, has been standard industry practice for a while. The big problem I see with this method is that yeast are under more stress, and will produce a worse ratio of undesirable byproducts.

My guess is also that with the cheaper products from these companies, they will do anything they can to reduce lagering time. The greater the lagering time, the more many of these undesirable byproducts get reprocessed by active yeast into ethanol.

You don't need the ultra-fanciest craft beer to test out the theory. Budweiser would be a decent test, it's brewed better than the ice beer stuff. Some of these big beer companies are trying to cut into the craft market, sometimes successfully (Coors Batch 19 seems to get good reviews for instance), that would be an even better test. (As would, yes, some of the craft beers, however "sissy" they are.)

A decent vodka (don't need a super-premium name, just a solid one) would also be a good test, and would be more in the "alcohol" vein if that's what you want. Vodka is pretty close to alcohol and water. Beer never will be.
