Opioids Alprazolam vs Diazepam for opiate withdrawal

Diazepam is way superior , the half-life and metabolites. also it has more muscle relaxant properties which helps with restless legs and the like.

In my opinion alprazolam is better because it hits harder and so gives better relief.Just make sure you have a good supply as it's short duration means you'll have to re-dose more often.

Why pick one?
Use a dose on the lower side of diazepam to handle the day to day of WD and then use the alprazolam to control sudden peaks in WD symptoms.
Keep the doses sensible and you should have no problem.

That's a good idea bunge.

Maybe use Diazepam for keeping you comfortable due to its long Half Life so dosing is needed less often.
And maybe use alprazolam for at night for sleep and to give extra help if you get really bad RLS as i do.

Imo it depends on how many you'll have and what it's used for. As a whole I prefer diazepam though. I think alprazolam hits harder though and lasts far shorter so I won't be fucked up for 3 days if I take a handful trying to knock myself out like I would be with diazepam. ;-)

That being said, diazepam relaxes my muscles more and makes me feel more calm and relaxed ( almost giddy ) instead of just fucked up, forgetful and sleepy.

In an ideal world I'd detox with both. Be mindful of developing a habit with benzos though.

Yeah, I'm about to detox, I got a little bit of alprazolam and diazepam (bout 9 pills each, 10mg and .5mg, respectively) I also got ambien.

The diazepam for the day to day (good idea bunge), xanax for just "as needed" and ambien I guess for sleep? And since you'd have the other benzos active in your system it would kind of synergize with the ambien... yes?

Bunge does have a good idea.I forgot to mention earlier that some carasoprodol (soma )added to the mix can work wonders.Just be sure you don't have to do anything requiring coordination because a good dose of soma, especially mixed with benzos, will have you stumbling all over the place.Good to knock you out to get through the worst of the withdrawls though.

I love xanax. it does work great, but klonopin works better for withdrawals for me. It seems to last a lot longer and really help parts of the withdrawals that xanax doesn't.

Diazepam hands down. For me I have to have a pretty high dose of it during acute WD and then reduce it quickly so I don't become benzodiazepine dependent again.

Then again, I take alprazolam in addition to the diazepam. But yeah I just make sure to spread the diazepam total daily dose over at least 4 split dosing times just like methadone for pain management, because yes it has a half life, but the actual duration of relief that you feel will be less than if you stack your dosing like I outlined and it keeps a steadier level of diazepam and it's metabolites like nordiazepan which has a 750hour half-life, they'll all build up and it won't take away more than 50% of the WD symptoms and you'll be lucky if it helps even that much but I know how when kicking people can justify using excessive amounts of other sedatives or even stimulants to take their psychological mindset away from the focused-on-your-withdrawal/detox-pain, but the efficacy of using a lot of benzodiazepines is really not going to increase with the dose you take, so try to keep it as low as you can and don't expect it to be like something that in any way agonizes your opioid receptors so it doesn't really do anything biochemically to directly impact opioid withdrawal, keep it in mind.

Tricomb is right about that.Benzos don't attach to your opiate receptors and make you less sick, they just help you deal with being miserable better. You'll just be sick and on benzos.Still though,it's a lot better to have them than not.Good luck with your kick and I hope you can stick with it.We all know what a miserable experience it is.Hey,at least you're not kicking in jail. That's the absolute worst hell I wouldn't wish on anyone.Hope it works out for you.

^Seriously, withdrawing in fucking jail is the worst, they don't give a fuuuuuck, and the mindset you return to is very unlikely to be a positive one that prevents you from repeating the thing that got you in jail, and oh yeah, benzos are notorious for inspiring people with no inhibitions to do stupid things and get arrested and when they find out they actually gotta do time for driving that riding lawnmower into the community pool where while blacked out on high dose benzos, and the childrens swimming lesson that was going on likely isn't doing your sentencing time any favors. Seriously the most fucked up stories I've heard often include the massive intoxication by benzodiazepines (and often mixed with stimulants).

Probably a good thing that I don't like benzos but during opiate wd I prefer low doses of diazepam at a time during the day (5mg) for the anxiety and then 15mg-30mg of temazepam at night for sleep. Temazepam + opiate wd = guaranteed sleep lol.
