Alprazolam and Cigs question

I've read and noticed from personal experience that when on diazepam (Valium) you don't wanna smoke cigs. Because they say that it will 'diminish' the high.. Does this hold true for other benzos? Cuz most people i know when are on xanax they smoke a lot..but I have also have noticed that after a night of takin some alprazolam, the next morning xanax-hangover is somewhat cured by smoking a couple cigs.... (And i am not an everyday smoker or even addicted to cigs).. Do any of you guys notice that Xanax reduces your xanax high like it does to diazepam (Valium) ?? I notice it at least somewhat "cures" a xanax hangover.. But I haven't really notice smoking cigs reduces the xanax effects while on the drug... inputs!

I beleive it holds true for other benzos. I think the reason it does that is that smoking does something something to the enzymes that metabolize them. Kinda like the opposite of what diphenhydramine does. Its really not that noticable and it feels good to smoke on benzos, so i personally always do. smoking the morning after a "xanax hangover" i wouldnt think would cure it. its not like it will instantly get rid of the benzos effects. "oh shit i gotta sober up better smoke a pack" ya know?

edit: Why dont you take a benadryl so you dont have to worry about it?

As thesean001 said, it's not that noticeable and anyway I do smoke a lot while on clonazepam and I won't stop smoking because of a "high" that "could" be lessened, shortened or benzodiazepinished, whatever. I enjoy clonazepam the same when I smoke and when I don't smoke.

Tobacco is a CYP450 1A2 inducer if I'm not mistaken so anything running through that pathway will be shortened in theory but I don't think it would be too noticeable. That doesn't include any benzos i can think of but it would effect caffeine metabolism.

I smoked less when I started on clonazepam, but mainly because it made me nauseous. I got more used to it and it doesn't so much anymore, so I smoke my regular amount nowaday...

Whenever I've taken Alprazolam (Xanax) or Diazepam (Valium), I've not found that cigarettes have a significant effect - although, I'd be so drowsy that I probably wouldn't smoke a lot.

I don't see a great recreational value with Diazepam, sadly.

^^ There's nothing on that site (Page 5) about smokers concentrations are reduced by 50% compared to non-smokers...

Who said anything about page 5? It's page 3 (second paragraph).

And I can tell you from first hand experience (I used to smoke) that it felt like my Xanax's effects were reduced each time I smoked a cigarette.

Swallow your Xanax with some grapefruit juice if you smoke. Problem solved.

Or you can pick up some Quercetin (a nutritional supplement) from any herbal shop. It's a plant based antioxidant which also happens to be a potent inhibitor of CYP3A4.

More info on it here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quercetin

I use it with my Xanax and Methadone and it works really well.

Does anyone else notice a really bad taste in their mouth when on Alprozolam, particulary peach ones. I notice the weird taste and food usualy tastes bad.

I never noticed smoking reducing the affects of benzos, although I probably smoke a little less just because I space cigarettes off on downers. Honestly, even if I did I would still smoke. Way more adddicted to the cigs than the pills.

I'm not sure it reduces the effects of every benzo, but for sure Alprazolam.

One drug which smoking didn't seem to affect when I was on it was Zopiclone which is hypnotic which acts on the benzodiazepine A-receptor.

LOL I guess I've never done xanax without smoking, so I don't have a basis to compare. I'm a lightweight for xanax anyway.
