alpha-methyl-melatonin

Agomelatine
Agomelatine has been reported to be a novel and useful antidepressant.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agomelatine
Agomelatine is a potent agonist at melatonin receptors and an antagonist at serotonin-2C (5-HT2C) receptors, tested in an animal model of depression (forced swimming test in rodents). It is concluded that the antidepressant-like activity in this model most probably involves a combination of both its melatonin agonist and 5-HT(2C) receptor antagonist properties.

^Yeah had seen that too, looks an interesting drug.
Still wonder what would happen with alpha-methyl-melatonin. Was expecting it to be a compound in pubchem, no search results.

What about adding a methyl group to melatonin?
Possibly a incredibly long acting melatonin agonist with 5-meo-amt as a metabolite?
That's enough to put me off before I even started!

How come? I thought most people found the 5-MeO's unpleasant due to their gastric receptor activation... if it forms in the bloodstream then this should be bypassed?
Or is it due to another reason people don't like them?
(lots of people hated 5-MeO-DiPT for that reason, but I found when you took it rectally this whole problem was gone, and was very nice

5-meo-amt has quite a bad reputation, deserved or not.
Could be worth a try if you could make it stereospecifically, one isomer seems to be responsible for the tripping and the other for the shitting...

*edit* Good point about the bloodstream activation, maybe worth a look then! Can anyone confirm that minimal ammounts would make it to the gastric receptors?

Yeah must say I would worry about tests with this compound namely due to potential problems with messing up ones circadian rythm if its a super long acting melatonin agonist.
Also melatonin is involved in quite a few pathways (antioxidant being one) - seems a scary thought messing around with them.
Still would be very interesting to know what effects it would have if any. I.e more psycadelic or more sleepy or a combination.

Oh it's deserved, at least in my opinion

Yeah, 5-MeO-AMT is weird with or without the physical side effects, IME.

I found it not weird but very different than all the other tryptamines I've tried, and in an interesting way. I would've definately explored it further if it weren't for the physical side effects.
I wonder if this hypotheses that the physical side effects would be bypassed for this pathway (alpha-methyl-melatonin -> 5-meo-amt) is true. I could see eliminating the GI effects, but what about the headaches? It would seem those would still be present, no?

^ well one can determine what is causing the headaches perhaps and use an appropriate auxilliary chemical to antagonize that effect -- if motivated enough

The closest I've come to 5MeO AMT is holding the bucket while my friends threw up into it after a moderate dose. They said the body load was massive. Isn't plain AMT enough?
Oh, anyone come across AMDMT (Dimethyl AMT) I think it's called TMT or something. It's not as potent as AMT but I've heard it's nicer...
