Hey i recently got diagonised as having allodynia and what else is mentioned in the title.
Ive been prescribed pregabalin and dont know anything else and im really scared. Whats going to happen in the future, will it go away? Will i end up having to use IV morphine and ketamine. Does it get worse?
im worried because ive been in pain for years and nothing has ever helped and im exhausted.

Hi hmkd, welcome to The Dark Side <3

I had never heard of allodynia before so I had to look it up. I haven't been able to find any information about the prognosis, what has your doctor told you about the condition? Is there a primary condition that you have which is causing allodynia to occur? Have you had any relief from the pregabalin yet?

As an aside note, it will be easier for you to respond if you sign up and become a member. We'd love to have you on board, don't be shy :) <3

hello hmkd,

From what I understand allodynia is a form of fibromyalgia. If it is then it is not a degnerative disease. There are many things that you can do to allieviate pain that don't involve being medicated. I have first hand experience with suffering from chronic pain for the last 20 years. Like n3o said..don't be shy join us!

Well the poster is actually already a member ^.^ but was originally too much of a pussy to ask unanon :/ sorry. I'd be so grateful to have some answers

^^ Yay! Welcome, again :) No need to be shy about asking a question about chronic pain mah man, it's nothing to be ashamed of at all <3

As TINK said there are plenty of options for you for managing your pain long-term. There are quite a few chronic pain sufferers here in TDS so hopefully some of them come out of the woodwork for you :)

Just for clarification: allodynia is a symptom, not a disease. It might help a little more if you gave us what your disease is, or if it is idiopathic (no known cause).

As far as neuropathic pain, morphine generally doesn't do a great job, but some people have really good results with it. I would also look into tricyclic antidepressants, as they are indicated for neuropathic pain.

Has the pregabalin helped? Right now that's one of the best treatments for neuropathic pain.

I have no idea really, its something like a sensitised cns or something?
The pregabalin is okay its just the fact that im quite unresponsive to painkillers usually which sucks

There are quite a few people here who have chronic pain similar to what you are experiencing.

Unfortunately, I am one of them.

What has been helpful in the past (not currently on this) is antidepressants. I forgot what name, but you can talk to you doctor about this. For me the side effects were too much for me to be on antidepressants. I am very sensitive to them. For example I shake like I have parkinson's, which makes daily living impossible.

Pregablin didn't do much for my pain, but did make me sleepy which is a good thing. I felt too out of it to think of the pain. But a lot of people get relief from it.

Opiates help me the most. Non opiate pain meds never did. But you know the risks with opiates. I currently take methadone, which helps a lot and I don't seem to get tolerant to its pain killing properties. Luckily, all opiates work like that on me. I don't feel high from them, but they never loose their pain killing properties.

But the base of my treatment is diet, exercise and prayer/meditation.

It's everything together that lets me stay sane when it gets really hard to bear this. I still ask myself, why me, even thou I know it won't do me any good.

Good luck. It's a difficult road and you will have to utilize every resource available in order to have a productive life and not live like a disabled person. Work on your weakness and use your strengths to your advantage.

And you have to stay positive, otherwise it will be much more difficult. It's easy to get down, but that will not help you at all.

I really appreciate your message :D Its really scary because I've never really had the effects of "pain killing" ever. And anytime I try to get the message across that I really do need stronger medicines my mum just thinks im trying to score an easy high as no one in my family really reconise what I have and have been experiencing for years. Being a stocky guy don't help because it was always presumed I was trying to get out of doing sport, fucking piss take makes me so angry.
