Hey guys I need a little advice here...
I have been on OC for about a year now. I've been at 40mgs a day all the way up to 160mg a day and am now at 80-120mgs a day depending on my pain levels. I have permission from my PM doc to take 3 a day since they sometimes only work 8 hours max on me. Also as a side note we are trying to slowly ween myself down to an even lower dose because I absolutely hate the fact that I have to take this shit at all, but I have tried everything else out there, sans fentanyl, to no avail. I am currently doing PT, for the fourth time around, but just like before I have experienced no improvement thus far. As for why I am taking this medicine is because I had a herniated disc that did not heal for three years, it finally did recede but didn't heal properly and I am now dealing with arthritis where that disc is along with degenerative disc disease. Needless to say I am in pain always unless medicated. I tried getting off the meds last year for a few months but my pain was just too great that I couldn't function.
Well the dose I'm on right now works really well at controlling my pain but I'm hoping PT might help a little with the pain this time so I can decrease my dose again.
The only problem now is that, as most of you know, OC has a new formula and I am allergic to it. Got my first batch of OPs earlier this month and they just make me absolutely sick to my stomach and have even made me vomit. It's affecting everything I do, my relationship, sex life, school, work, everything... just because I just feel sick whenever I take it. I called the pharmacy up and asked if they had any generics or any of the original formula left but they said absolutely not, I told them my problem and they said talk to your dr about it and maybe have him change meds.
Well I have an apt this week and I will definitely be talking to my PM dr about switching meds. My question for you is what should I ask for? I would like to stick with oxycodone because it actually does work well and I don't ant to go to another level and start taking fentanyl. I also don't want to go to sub or methadone unless I have to. Do you guys think it's a good idea and reasonable to ask about switching to roxi or w/e other IR oxy brands there are? If so what dose should I ask for or would he probably recommend. Keep in mind I am on 80-120mgs of OC per day now. Would you guys recommend anything else? And do you think he will have a problem switching me to an IR from and ER considering I am allergic to the new ER formula? Anything else you guys think I should bring up while I'm there would be much appreciated. Thanks all! Your help is truly appreciated.

They still make the old formulation as a generic through the brand "ethex." Just find a pharmacy that carries the generic and go from there.

I tried. There are only 3 pharmacies in my area that are allowed to carry oxycontin and all three of them have told me there will be only the OPs from now on and that generics aren't even made anymore =( Walgreens used to carry the generic but not anymore.

please speak to your doctor about it, it's him and you that are ultimately come to the conclusion.

we're really not here to suggest what to ask for and especially aren't here to coach you into what you want.
