I've been smoking weed for about 6 months and this has never happened to me before. I smoked about a gram and my hand became red and swollen and I got an itchy rash on my neck. This went away after about an hour. I have hives on my legs now days after. Is it possible to develop an allergy to weed or was it an allergic reaction to the specific type of weed? This weed was different to what I usually get, it had seeds in it which I've never come across before and I'm not sure of the name. I have no pictures but it was quite dark.

Judging by your symptoms it sounds like you smoked some Mexican brick weed laced with insect repellent. I would schedule a doctors appointment ASAP. You might have cancer.

I wouldn't say you have cancer, but Arci is right. You had an allergic reaction to the absolute garbage chemicals drug cartels use to make their nasty ass brick weed.
Future tip: Don't ever buy weed with seeds in it. By default it is terrible. 1 or 2 is fine, but more than that, no way.

The weed allergy would have presented before now. It's not impossible because people do spontaneously develop allergies to substances where one previously didn't exist. It's probably something else, like a pesticide as said. It could even be fertilizer residue. It's just impossible for us to know without speculating.
I can't really go to the doctor because I would then have to tell them I smoked weed..

But yeah I would just not buy from that dealer anymore.. because I don't know anyone IRL that has ever experienced what you described.. and it sure doesn't sound healthy
If you were allergic to marijuana(not even sure if its a real thing) it definitely wouldn't just randomly happen 6 months after you've been smoking, it would've happend the first time you smoked.
Also why are you afraid to tell your doctor you smoke weed? Everything is confidential.. and he's a doctor. he is not going to care if you smoke pot, trust me.

Don't tell your doctor you do drugs, it goes down on your record that you are a 'drug user' and getting sleeping pills, benzos for anxiety, opiates for pain and things like insurance can be made stupidly difficult, if not impossible in many cases. Seriously, it could be one of the biggest mistakes you make in a long time. Many doctors, even in this day and age are still very ignorant when it comes to cannabis and really, do you want to take the risk? Don't tell him/her unless it's absolutely necessary.

There are definitely cases of people with weed allergies, it's a plant like any other and the reactions can be severe at times, ranging from typical pollen allergy symptons like a runny nose ad sore throat to terrible hives and their throat closing, and in some cases the reactions have developed months/years of smoking without any previous problems. Since you smoked before with no issues it's likely it was either chemical contaminants or maybe some other plant pollens that got into that particular batch, but make sure to watch for any similar symptoms in the future, weed allergies do exist.

I had that experience with White Kush. I was smoking with my friend. After the first hit my hands developed red rashes, but that went away after 10 minutes.
Allergic reactions to marijuana can be caused by touching buds or leaves, smoking strains that contain Aspergillus and even high doses of THC.

It's possible to develop an allergy to nearly anything, and it's also possible to "lose" or develop a resistance (and even immunity) to a particular allergen a person may've grown up with.
I've never personally met anybody allergic to marijuana but I'm completely certain that it's possible to develop an allergy to the substance. I know nothing of the timeframe required for such a change but it's without a doubt possible.
Honestly, though, I would think an allergy related to smoke would cause a more prevalent reaction in a person's respiratory system as opposed to their skin, but it's not so far a stretch.
Anybody know if marijuana is one of the things tested for in a standard test for allergies? I just remember things like dogs, cats, ragweed, grass and stuff like that... I wouldn't be surprised if there were a way to test for it, though.

Sweet Jesus! Surely lets isolate this by area, Lauren, hypothetically, if you lived in America/Mexico yeah sure that could happen and definitely go and see the doctor! But if you are from Netherlands or Australia like they've got their own bud in their own countries. Let that be a factor! Like if you do have any doubt though go and see the doctor.
