Court hears how Christopher McGirr and Paul Kelly were described as the superheroes in the mobile phone of one of their couriers

Two Merseyside men accused of running a £1m heroin conspiracy were described as “Batman and Robin” in the mobile phone of one of their couriers.

Christopher McGirr and Paul Kelly sold class A drugs in the city but got others to do their “dirty work”, Liverpool crown court heard.

David McLachlan, prosecuting, told jurors: “The prosecution say Christopher McGirr and Paul Kelly were in business together. Their business was drug dealing. They supplied class A drugs, mainly heroin, in significant quantities notably of very high purity."

He described how in December 2011 police surveillance of McGirr saw him in a pub car park in Kirkby with another man.

Police moved in to stop that man’s car and in it found 1½kg of high purity heroin worth between £60,000 and £90,000 which after adulteration could have been worth as much as £900,000.

Mr McLachlan said: “In short December 2 had been a bad day for him. He had been caught red handed.”

Mr McLachlan said having lost this courier – who referred to Kelly and McGirr as Batman and Robin on his mobile phone – they recruited Paul Rogers, 29, of Smithford Walk, Tarbock Green, who on Thursday May 3 last year parked his van at Kelly’s family home on Town Row, West Derby, and then went around the corner to meet a “customer” of theirs.

Police stopped the customer and found he had 102g of high purity heroin worth up to £100,000 when cut.

Mr McLachlan said: “The prosecution say Christopher McGirr and Paul Kelly dealt class A drugs.

“They were in the phone as Batman and Robin.

“They weren’t fighting evil. They were peddling misery with a name called heroin.”

Paul Rogers and Paul Kelly, 28, of Crantock Close, West Derby, deny conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

Christopher McGirr, 28, of Tollerton Road, West Derby admitted the charge and will be sentenced after the trial.

Some junkies are going to be very unhappy! Bastard law enforcement, bastard lawmakers, they are the ones creating the misery!!

^ It sounds like they're cutting their product down to 9:1 cut/heroin.. so a LOT of junkies are just going to be sort of unhappy lol

The police are just assuming that the dope is going to get cut along the way to the end user.

They always assume that to make themselves look better by boosting their numbers. Basically statistical circle-jerking.

They weren’t fighting evil. They were peddling misery

A: Yes, hello, I would like 5 grams of misery to go, please.
B: Yes, sir. Orders of 5 grams get a free trial-sized portion of despair as well.
A: Excellent. Put it on my tab.

Edit: This is called sarcasm.
The drug dealers were not selling misery, because people don't often buy misery.
They were selling a product that people choose to take in order to feel happy/happier.
