MIAMI, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Diego "Don Diego" Montoya, once on the FBI's most-wanted list, has agreed to plead guilty in Miami to drug-related charges, his lawyer said.

Montoya is to appear Tuesday before U.S. District Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga, The Miami Herald reported Saturday.

Montoya, 58, who was extradited to Miami in December, was the reputed head of a notorious international cocaine cartel from Colombia's North Valley, the Herald reported.

Montoya previously pleaded innocent to drug-related charges of conspiracy, racketeering, money laundering and obstruction of justice. His attorney, William Clay confirmed the new plea agreement but declined to elaborate on its specifics, the Herald reported.

The U.S. extradition agreement with Colombia prohibits Montoya's from being sentenced to life.
