Howdy folks, I just bought a nintendo DS Lite a couple of weeks ago and have been totally digging it. With the R4 cart and it's built in wifi it is full of possibilities with homebrew applications, ROMs, and such. But I'm a noob to gaming, the last system I owned was the NES back in the days of hair bands and the power glove. Anybody else have one of these nifty little devices and can you recommend any games, sites, homebrew applications, etc?
I just got mine but some games/programs I've tried and enjoyed are Jam Sessions, Electroplankton, Nitrotracker, Zelda: phantom hourglass, Metroid prime hunters, Mario Kart, and Iron Man.
Let's hear some DS goodness :)

i just got a ds a few weeks ago along with a fresh copy of the new pokemon. apart from being bigger and more pokemon it hasn't changed a bit from the good ol' days.

I got my DS about 8 months ago, and at the time I got the Brain Training 1 program (N3RD!!!!) and the Yoshis Island game.

SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!

But the Yoshis Island game is so so shit, after about 8 levels, there's this stage that I have NOT been able to get past...and I'm usually reasonably okay at figuring games out. I even used game walk-throughs off the net and still couldn't pass this one level!! So I stopped playing it, soon to trade it in.

The Brain Train programs are so awesome!! Both the 1st and 2nd programs. My problem-solving and quick-maths skills have improved ten-fold. Highly recommended =D

Being a sales rep, I spend a good amount of my day waiting in my car for appointments, so the DS saves my life in that respect!!

never tried one. but I love chess so I probably ought to give 'em a try.
When my dad recently had knee surgery, and was bed-ridden for the recovery period of 6 weeks, I lent him my DS to play. Mum bought him the Chess Master game, and he is so totally hooked!!!! Mum bought him his own DS soon after that....so I could have mine back thank you very much!
Hahaha.

i agree

before i got my wii, i bought a d.s.....its crazy cuz you can get the wifi adapter and play all over the world, on the d.s. or wii....i have 25 games for my d.s., and being that my left hand is paralyzed, its great for us different abled folks...:D

i challenge any1 to tiger woods 08!! or advance wars dual stike!:)

brain age 1 and 2 are great try flash focus!

If you like old-school RPGs, pick up Final Fantasy III DS. New Super Mario Bros. is also hella fun...pretty much exactly what I wanted the original SMB to be on NES. Phantom Hourglass is one of my favorites in the Zelda series...it's a near-perfect implementation of the touch screen controls, a lot of fun, and (unlike Majora's Mask) is a very deserving Zelda sequel.

Personally I had a lot of difficulty with Metroid Prime Hunters; none of the control schemes were comfortable enough to make it worth the time for me...which, as you can probably tell by my avatar, was a big disappointment for me.

Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings is a lot of fun if you like RTS games. I don't, particularly, but I still enjoyed it enough to get all the way through it.

I have recently become addicted to Kirby: Canvas Curse. It's super fun :)
The controls for Metroid make me feel sea sick if I play too long, lol.

Anybody else into making music on the DS? I originally got mine because my buddy and I formed a band making music purely on the DS. We use Jam Sessions, Electroplankton run through a guitar effects processor, Nitrotracker, and bliptracker.
I'm super-stoked for the Korg DS-10 to come out!

I've spent some time with Jam Sessions, but I generally find it to be a wrist-breaking exercise in frustration...I'd rather just play a guitar, haha.

greenlittlepill: have you played Kirby: Canvas Curse? It uses only the stylus so I imagine it would be great for one-handed play.

I just bought one tonight and I'm really excited! This is the first gaming thing I've had since my old NES back in the 1990's.

Has anyone been able to play the old NES, SNES, and old Sega games on their DS? A friend mentioned to me that he was able to make it happen and I'm having trouble finding an emulator. He suggested CyclopsDS, but they appear to be gone. :( Any suggestions?

Thanks!

i bought a ds last year, with wear n tear, i decided to buy another 1, and sold nthe used 1 to my roomate for $50.00...its INCREDIBLY FUN! you just have to pick out the right games...DONT GET SPACE INVADERS..its just like the 1980 arcade classic..no improvements..very lame, i was wondeing, how many of you have the USB WiFi connector?it works with the wii as well, but i must say a good round of tiger woods 08 will spark my interest. my name on the nintendo network is Matthew....see yal links :0
