as a child innocent and pure
one used to wish
before bedtime
clasping hands together
muttering a mantra
that one's been taught
through cartoons and songs
to have all the toys in the world
or just simply be happy
"star light, star bright,
first star i see tonight,
i wish i may, i wish i might
have the wish i wish tonight"
then as one got older
stress and worries piled on
trying to "make it" in this world
competing in the rat race
so one wouldn't be left behind
so one often forgets about the stars
about the little mantra muttered
before bedtime with clasped hands
as if in prayer
all one's concerned now
is making as much progress in
one's career as possible
the stars and all innocence
are then forgotten...
in its place all things material
one used to wish
