All things camping/hiking/outdoor survival

Hahaha. I seem to burn hotter than most people. Tis odd. That's why one of my pairs of cargo's (now the only one I'll take no doubt) is lightweight and can convert into shorts...and I will probably pack a wife beater, just to be safe ;)

I imagine I'll be fucking baking if its raining and I want my waterproof gear on. Especially if we are walking with equipment/packs on....up hill. ugh. I don't like getting wet if I can help it (rain. love swimming)

Nah I've done my prep, i've almost crippled myself over the last week or so from walking/jogging & cycling. So achey. I just have to keep eating enough protein and water & rest now, so I'm fully healed up and stronger for the trip.

BTW: I don't sweat as much now I hardly drink, at least... 8( :p heh.

Fresh socks and undies don't take up too much space and create the illusion you've actually put on fresh clothes. I'd want a change of shirt if I was planning to stumble into a pub after 2 nights roughing it.

I'm unsure which of two camping stoves to take with me to a festival: my tiny backpacking one which will stash away inside my cooking pans when not in use, or Jess's briefcase-type one where the gas cylinder lays horizontally. I have plenty of gas canisters for both stoves, and Jess is entirely cool with me using hers as long as I replace any gas I use up.

If we were both going, we'd simply take both stoves; but it's just me this time, representing, and I only need one if I'm only going to be cooking one thing at a time. And I do need a stove for brewing up, and for cooking certain traditional meals that Jess and I would eat together if we were botg hoing, and which tradition I fully intent do honour.

(I must admit, I am seriously tempted by the Biolite twig-burning stove, with its TEG for phone charging and powering the combustion fan. Not to mention the fact that it runs on twigs, so the price effectively includes a lifetime supply of "gas canisters" and no shortage of places to get them. And using the fat from cooking breakfast to start the mid-morning mashing has a definite element of completing the circle about it. Just not got time to learn to drive the thing properly now in time for the gig. Getting it down to one match every time is an art that even a truly dedicated certified pyromaniac happy living-room wood-burner user would take some time to master. Wait for the end-of-season sale, Jules, snap one up and spend the winter practising in the back yard to be a pro in time for next year .....)

I've read loads of comments about those things on reddit, mostly from hardcore US campers, and the general consensus appears to be that they're pretty shit and impractical. A gimmick. I'm sure you can do your own research though. :)

that's another point, don't expect your phones gps to be much use, unless you pay for one of the ordnance survey gps overlay apps. Google maps will get you lost (speaking from experience).

Haha, well, if you have excess money to spend on useless velcro patches, please don't scrimp on the headtorch. :p

Don't buy a £5 shitty thing from a cheap shop, invest in a nice Petzl or PELI (like ours). Or is it too late?

BTW it's a complete coincidence that ours are exactly the same type they use on offshore oil platforms. ;)

Do you work offshore too mate?

Used to. Not any more though...

They also do a nice line in thermal fleece flameproof balaclavas, which are great for camping. Back on topic. ;)

^ yeah these are perfect for wandering around the woods with an axe strapped to your back

i've read loads of comments about [biolite stoves] on the well-known troll site reddit, mostly from idiots pretending to be hardcore US campers, and the general consensus appears to be that they're simply too expensive for sad gits living in their mothers' basements, so they paint a picture of them as being pretty shit and impractical in a pathetic attempt to convince themselves that they do not want one. A gimmick. I'm sure you can do your own research though. :)
Fixed that for you ;)

Haha, wow. Two people that don't understand what Reddit is. Do you think I read it on the politics subreddit, or the cat pictures subreddit, or any of the other default shitty ones that anyone with a clue immediately unsubscribes from?
