All men play on 10 (METAL THREAD 3.0)

Dark Ages is Soulfly's best release. Just stick with that one Gog, and don't go back to any of the others. Before that they were rapping with Fred Durst .

yummy, you should check out Dark Ages. I pretty much wrote off Soulfly years ago, but this is a good relase.

I was about to say that Soulfly were pretty awful too, but seeing that Gog is only judging them on Dark Ages, I can see why he likes them.

the first soulfly album has a few good songs on it.

let me think....

eye for an eye.....that's one of the good 1's.

i just got done watching a show on vh1 classics called "top 40 metal songs" or something like that.

they had a Kiss song in the top ten.

Kiss?....metal?....wtf?

then at #2 they had Guns & Roses' "welcome to the jungle".

that is not metal.

Haha, agreed!...VH1's "top shows" usually suck, I end up disappointed with them.

Come on, since when have the mainstream media outlets accurately identified metal? Once in a while an actual metal fan will produce a featured program (A Headbanger's Journey) but vh1 writers wouldnt know metal if Euronymous came back from the dead and shoved a two-pronged halberd up their ass while screaming the lyrics to 'chainsaw gutsfuck'.

Schizophrenia is one of the greatist albums EVER released.

That is all i have to say.

damn nile is really working their way to the top of my fav death metal bands list. these guys are incredible. the only bad thing i can say about them is: THEY DONT HAVE ENOUGH MATERIAL!!!!

Ive been so stuck on In their Darkened Shrines lately. IMO Annihilation of the Wicked is their *best* album, but ITDS is my favorite. It has such an atmospheric gothic-spiritual charge to it. I can feel the gods in the afterlife crying out their sunderous bellows, and the otherworldy entities swarming in their ethereal realm. Not to mention these guys drop it low and dish it out like a warhammer. Exceptional time change techniques, superb shredding at top speeds and excellent atmospheric downtempos. I love their vocalist too. I really cant get enough of this band, the last couple of days ive had their 4 studio releases on constant rotate in my stereo.

An abstract on some of the lyrical content:
The song, "Sacrophagus", could be thought of as a continuation of the Nephren-ka saga - perhaps a revisitation of the Lovecraftian mythos that this band has been exploring since our earlier work. In this latest chapter, whilst naively excavating in the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka, we have unwittingly awakened our protagonist from his long, restful interment. After wreaking his underworld vengeance upon us for disturbing him from his oblivion, he is tormented by memories of the unholy transgressions that had caused him his anguished eternal entombment... in all seriousness, though, I sometimes get the uneasy feeling that perhaps it would be best to leave Lovecraft's characters sleeping, undisturbed in an eternal dormant state - dead, as it were, but dreaming. Who knows what we might awaken?

-from the song, Sarcophagus

Unas, Slayer of the Gods might be one of my all time fav death metal tracks. Its the definition of progressive death metal. The guitar leads alone are enough to really captivate the senses, and even with that they have such a unique blend of egyptian musical scales with contemporary metal. They never stray out of their motif or theme, but maintain such a solid metal force. The acoustic breakdown in this track really gives a new listener a great taste for their overall style. Slow ambiance smoothly and seamlessly blended with speed thrashing vigor.

these guys have truley brought a new dimension to the table, to an allready multidimensional art form.

what are you guys talking about? the first soulfly cd was great. I may be biased because I was way into that sort of thing at the time it came out, but that shit was incredibly raw. Sepultura had been going on forever, and while I liked the Roots album, I just think Sepultura may have just... been over, and Soulfly was different, tribal nu metal with real metal cred or something.

but then again, I also liked Machine Head's 'The Burning Red' AND Slayer's 'God Hates Us All', so I assume that makes my opinion null and void.

I'm not going to lie and say I didn't like the first Soulfly album when it dropped. Like you, I was "way into that sort of thing" as well. Looking back now though, as my tastes have changed, it isn't too impressive.

fucking LOVE soulfly's first album

anything after that... meh...

Max C. might be the worst lyricist of all time...never did quite get a handle on that English language. Cool scream though.

Please post a part of a metal song that makes you want to grab a rusty icepick and gouge someone's eyes out. You know what I am talking about:

Me first.

Lamb of God - 11th Hour

the breakdown that comes in at about 2:42 and hits like a fucking jackhammer after Randy utters (repeats at about 3:20) :

So take as needed for the pain
Another gray morning dawns across an ashen sky.
My sweet demoness beckons me
Ever again and again and again and again.
The dark mistress of many, beholden to none
My sweet demoness beckons me

3:45 in Pantera's 'Revolution is my name' right after all the guitar solos, the part where Vinnie is going at it on the best used cowbell in metal history.

killer. I just had to go and listen to it after you mentioned it.

Pantera - Suicide Note Part II

basically the whole track, but the breakdown starting at 1:11 makes me want to pull someone's fucking arm off.

I never thought about it till now, but metal has never made me want to hurt anybody on any level. Its always more like I wanna burn cities down, but it would free all the people trapped there and the ones too stupid to leave would burn and I would scorn them.

just play along with my game, dammit. ;)

mkay... the big ass breakdown and creepy keyboards at the end of that Dimmu song "Indocrination" always made me think of effecting mass annihilation in some way. The entire"Obscura" album by Gorguts... same feeling, but scarier.

I also used to blast Dismember while playing Unreal Tournament, so like an ever-flowing stream makes me think of well-executed headshots.
