Black peter was in a field going round, round, round
There was a block in his memory and he forgot how to dance
the wind was swift when it swayed against the brush
and the cornfields were still in Nebraska and nothing changed

at least not for the best

nothing changed but it was supposed to
everyone was content with the way things were
‘n when those things stayed
the way they were
it felt deserved
the time had come
it was so familiar
and it was lovely, fun, fun

White Henry was a farmer
and predicted the weather
it was going to rain on Saturday
and soak all the leather
of saddles for his horses
and he then discovered later
torn boots abandoned by the roads
in the summer weather
in the old country world
of America where it’s all better


all better now
people don’t know how
it’s all better now
and no one has to try

it’s no conspiracy

it’s the same as it was
and folks were greeted
by nostalgic impulses
and sweetened
by sounds of bluegrass
sounding
all better?
