Alex Grey's Car Accident

A reminder about the fragility of life - even for the greats. Scary.

The human race is obviously not ready to handle the power and responsibility that comes with operating a motor vehicle. Many individuals may be, but as a whole, we are not.

I think this is a bit extreme. Some people are clearly not responsible behind the wheel of a vehicle, but that doesn't mean that everyone must live their life in fear. Much of life is like this; it's not specific to humanity's readiness to use motor vehicles. (Personally I hate the idea of driving, mostly for environmental and comfort reasons, so I live in an area where I can walk to everything, but that's not practical for everyone and every situation.)

Not to get too far off topic.
public transit > than private transport via auto, imo. I would seriously consider giving up the freedom a car affords if I could get to work and a select number of prime location via transit in my area. Imaging being able to read and/or otherwise be productive during your commute vs. stressed out in stop and go traffic? not to mention the financial burden cars essentially enslave us to. these factors mute or override the freedom aspect for me.

I don't think humans have evolved to the point that most of us can handle several tons of metal zooming along at 60+ mph on a daily basis. We are too reactive, emotional, and otherwise unpredictable. Sleep deprivation, concentration, general emotional state, not including medications, etc, all put together make for a bad mix. That being said most of us are stuck with it, for better or for worse.

For what it's worth, my thoughts go out to Alex and friends.

^ Very much agreed my friend.

I plan to move to a city known for the quality of its public transportation as soon as possible.

Best wishes to Alex and Allyson. Wonderful, friendly, incredibly talented people like them deserve the best of health and long life. I hope their recovery is full and speedy.
