Alcohol withdrawl?

Hi, for the past few months I've been drinking quite a lot, almost every day during the festive period, however, when I went back to work in January I start to become very anxious especially at night and I started to use etizolam during the week to chill out, however, I drank heavily every weekend (Fri-Sun) throughout January and February and then went back onto etizolam in the week because my anxiety was returning. My problem came about 10 days ago when I tried to break this circle and I became very anxious, my heart rate kept going up, I got depression, I felt like the world was going to end etc., the thing is I've drank heavily on weekends for years with no problems. Does anyone think that these few months of 3 days of etizolam use plus the drinking heavily on weekends has had a combined effect upon me or am I just getting old (29)? I heard that etizolam and alcohol relaxes the brain in a similar manner, so could it be some sort of benzo/alcohol withdrawal?

Thanks

If your used to using any sort of drug daily without giving your body the chance to detox from it you will without a doubt go through withdraw, I don't think you will have a very hardcore withdrawl but good luck sleeping and you will be very anxious and restless, it'd always good to slowly taper off rather then cold turkey, don't forgot the mind can play crazy tricks on you.. If you think your going through WD then you most likely will make yourself go through it

I'm getting a bit better now, but last week was horrific, I got terrified for no reason, I couldn't even bring myself to go to the pub to watch the match, I thought I was going crazy :( I thought it was a good idea to limit my drinking to the weekend and use etizolam during the week but it seems they were having the same effect on me and something in my head rebounded and I lost all the ability to calm myself down. I've experienced mild opiate withdrawals, MDMA comedowns etc. but nothing was as bad as this, it reminded me of the feeling I got when I had a difficult LSD trip. I'm hoping that by the end of the week I'm sorted :)

Alcohol withdrawal lasts for 10-14 days, and yes it is miserable. I got it one time from drinking lots for two weeks once, and that amount of abuse did indeed give me withdrawals.

Yes, booze and etizolam hit the same receptors, the GABAa system.

Benzos will attenuate some of the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal, but it certainly helps to make them more bearable.
