Hi

I am new to this forum as a poster but I've been a bit of a lurker for a few years!

Anyways, things might be becoming a bit tricky over the next few days as i have a SERIOUS alcohol problem (i.e. 25 UK units a day for a considerable time!) and I am going to run out of money tommorow with no cash whatsoever until tuesday.

I really want to get off alcohol and have been trying to get myself onto the waiting list for a detox with the local alcohol service for several months now its just the waiting list is ridiculously long :(

Anyways, I have 50mg of clonazepam available and was wondering if this would be decent benzo to keep the withdrawals at bay until tuesday and would 50mg be enough to fully detox myself from alcohol?

Any input would be really appreciated, cheers!!

That should be plenty to withdrawal from alcohol and you wouldn't need to taper the clonazepam as alcohol wd's last for 3 to 5 days. If you don't have tolerance to the clonazepam 1mg every 5 hours 3 or 4 times a day should help you through the worst of it.

I did a little math and it sounds like youre drinking about 16 12oz beers a day if thats what you drink. How long have you been drinking for? You might need support from friends or a group to keep you from drinking.

Best of luck for quitting, I'm still struggling with my drinking.

Hi

Thanks for your reply! I have been drinking extremely heavily for around 5 years, but have been drinking that heavily for around a year and a half, pretty much daily. It sounds so ridiculous when I type it like that.

Um as to how units translates to amounts, its around 7-9 pints of 5.3% ABV cider a day :| My body feels like I've been drinking the waste product from the nuclear power plant :(

I went into the local alcohol service place today and after months of being told 'you're on the waiting list' someone finally told me that in reality I'm only about half way up the list :| So I don't know whether I should just go for it with the help of the clonazepam, but I'm worried about getting the DTs!

I know what you mean about the support thing, but unfortunately pretty much all i do with my friends is drink, so its gunna be pretty difficult to find new things to occupy my time you know?

I hope ur able to get ur drinking under control, I know how difficult it can be, I've tried many drugs in the past and didn't have any problems with anything other than alcohol - it sucks! :(

I just wanted to add that I never get the shakes or anything when I wake up but i drink mainly at night (and ALOT) so i'm guessing that my blood alcohol levels are too high at that time for my body to go into withdrawal.

However, at around 8pm (the time I normally start drinking) I start to feel as if something is ever so slightly 'different' and start feeling kind of anxious (starting to feel like this at the moment to be honest). Do you think this could be the beginning of alcohol withdrawal? It's worth baring in mind that I've had problems with anxiety for a while so it be just general anxiety or the beginnings of withdrawal?

Any opinions would be very much appreciated!!

Many thanks

yes, anxiety is one of the symptoms of wd's. IMO 7 to 9 pints is not much, as I used to drink a 750ml bottle of vodka for a year or 2. I've been drinking for 5 years as well, but have cut down to drinking a 6 pack of 12oz 6%.

Good luck man, I am considering going to an alcoholics anonymous place just to have ppl to bitch and whine about my problems when I am sober. I drank to suppress memories etc.
