Hey everyone. I suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome from time to time. This past week it was really bad, with horrible throbbing pain.

Yesterday evening I felt a bit better, I had 2 pints then 2 hours later took 2 mg clonazepam. Today my pain seems to be gone for the most part.

Could the clonazepam or maybe the beer have frozen my intestines. Will it come back with a vengeance in a day or two.

I start a job next week and I want to be in tip top shape.

Thanks

I am no doctor and do not know much about IBS but I thought alcohol would only make the symptoms worse and should be avoided. And a quick read lead to this info "Chronic use of certain sedative-hypnotic drugs, especially the benzodiazepines, may cause irritable bowel-like symptoms that can lead to a misdiagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome.[61]" So I am not sure if benzo use will make you "think" you are having an episode, or whatever you wish to call them.

I dont think benzos or alcohol have the ability to slow down or stop the movement in your digestive system in the way that say opiates do. Have you been diagnosed by a professional? There are some forms of treatment that you should try if you feel the symptoms negatively impact your life. Like I said I know nothing about IBS all I know is when I was chugging vodka like a russian my digestive system was torn up.

I've been diagnosed with IBS after seeing two different gastro docs, colonoscopies, endoscopies and other tests. That and gerd are the only things they could come up with. I can't remember all the medications I was given but one that did help was lomotil. The klonopin may have helped you relax, and stress can bring on IBS symptoms. But I don't think either the benzo or especially alcohol would "freeze" your intestines. Like szuko said, they can worsen IBS.

Myself, I can't take any sort of speed or empathagen type drugs because I suffer painful consequences. My system just can't handle them. Certain foods can cause flare-ups as well. You didn't say for how long you've had these symptoms but if they continue, you should see a doctor. You shouldn't have to suffer when there's medications that can help. I found a site that mentions natural remedies that might be useful:

If it's stress induced id say that explains it. Don't drink alcohol if you have IBS though or your are going to seriously regret it down the road
