Mental Health Agoraphobia

Here is some info about agoraphobia for those who are unclear on what this is:

Agoraphobia is a fear of being in situations where escape might be difficult, or help wouldn't be available if things go wrong.
Many people assume that agoraphobia is simply a fear of open spaces but it is more complex than that. A person with agoraphobia may be scared of:

-travelling on public transport
-visiting a shopping centre
-leaving home

If people with agoraphobia find themselves in a stressful situation they usually experience symptoms of a panic attack, such as:

-rapid heartbeat
-rapid breathing (hyperventilating)
-feeling hot and sweaty
-feeling sick

They avoid situations that cause anxiety and may only leave the house with a friend or partner, or order groceries online rather than go to the supermarket. This change in behaviour is known as avoidance.

have you been smoking weed consistently in the past leading up to your agoraphobia building up to an unpleasant level?

if so how do you view the way your cannabis use affects your anxiety levels?

i dont want to be judgy or bash cannabis but just wanted to bring up those points because i know for myself with the strains currently available to me if i smoke heavily daily i start losing my ability to cope with life and i will become a hermit and i will feel horror and dread at the thought of hanging out with my friends at a show or in the city because my ability to communicate is dulled when my mind is dulled from my short term memory being shot

sry if i wrote all that and you dont even smoke or you know it doesnt affect you anxiety levels...

affects and effects could become one word for all i care because i still have trouble using them in the correct contexts :|

also if you use medicinally ive heard good things about high cbd strains and juicing cannabis etc or edibles/vaping im prbly preaching to the choir though ;)

^Good point. :)

The best way I've dealt with agoraphobia is having something to do outside of the home. I started one class when I was at my worst and doing so forced me to get out of my apartment and be around new people. You could also try some sort of new hobby and even though it's difficult right now really try to force yourself to keep in contact with your friends and family. Take them up on invitations and answer the phone when they call, it really does help.

I actually have been cutting back on cannabis a lot. I have about none of it for today anyways.

I honestly know I have had this for a while. I would quit cannabis if I had to; I just feel that it's one of the few things that helps me get going most days.

Thanks for any advice guys, much ❤

I have a fear of shopping malls. I have NEVER met anyone else like that so thought it was just me. I can attend outside festivals or concerts. But indoors - not going to happen. It's interesting that shopping centres is literally cited.
Yes, weed can make social situations very awkward. I smoked it for 15 years religiously. Then one day I got a batch of really strong stuff, and have been paranoid on it ever since.

^ I am too confident at times. I cannot ignore irrational fears, even when I know they're irrational as hell.

Thank you Mr. Flowers. You're a real nice guy for the advice. I will still try to be more confident when it's happening and hopefully it'll help.

getting over agoraphobia is all about confidence

no its not.the most confident of people can suffer from it.

try the medication anafranil, it works wonders for agoraphobia, one of the best meds in the market. also try to see ur good friends more often while on that medication, that combo will save ur life.

I used to have really bad agoraphobia back in the day --- incidentally the majority of it can be attributed to being in a horrid, absolutely disgusting relationship with a girl that was one-sided (I'm the only one trying and being honest, she was constantly lying, cheating and otherwise not giving a fuck). That relationship crippled my ability to be out in the open and around large crowds, I guess looking back I was actually in denial and completely ashamed to be out in public with her--- the times that my panic attacks spiked were almost always with her around.

I still continue to be amazed at how negative people effect our moods, when there is an asshole or a super ridiculously fidgety person around in my house thesedays I cleverly get them the hell out of my house ASAP. And when I encounter shit heads out in the world, its best to just turn right around and leave them in their own self-made shitstorm.

Being selective with who we spend time around helps everything in our lives, including fear of public encounters and places. Hope that sheds some light.

I don't suffer from agoraphobia much anymore, only when I am really super baked. Funny how pot can really mess you up lol.

have you ever considered taking aniracetam with choline and maybe stacking that with noopept, i think that combination can help people to become super-logical and once you can see things in a clearer and simpler light then it is easy to overcome situations such as asking a girl out, or in your case leaving the house.

I'm aware of how illogical my agoraphobia is. There's no amount or degree of knowledge that helps alleviate my agoraphobia.

depending on how much your agoraphobia is interrupting your ability to enjoy life, i think you should think about a t-break (30 days no bud) then

you said weed helps you get through each day but to me thats a sign that you need a month to re-assess

kanna (south african herb) is something you could use daily as a mood lifter while you arent smoking weed, its a great mood lifter and even creates a very subtle trippyness to life IME

and if weed is vry important for your ability to sleep then Agomelatine would help to regulate your sleep cycle if you wanted an effective sleep aid without side effects/discontinuation issues

Xanax helps until you build up a tolerance. Then you have to take it just to keep going into withdrawals.

Captain h, I suffered from agraphobia for a very, very long time and im just getting over it. My main issue was smokimg the ganja too much. Maybe try smoking every other day, and eventually youll notice you dont even need to smoke weekly. Getting your self out there is a big one too. When you shelter yourself it just gets that much worse.

Try getting in a multi-vitamin and fish oil while eating healthier too, itll make you feel better about yourself in general

Hey Capt.

I have agoraphobia which gets more intense as the number of people in the area increases. I've had it since before I started cannabis and I find that pot helps me.

How severe is your problem? Does it get worse with cannabis or does it ease up? What treatments/medications have you examined?

^This. No matter how aware you are that your feelings/behaviour is illogical/irrational it doesn't help you to work through it. You can tell yourself all you want that 'there's no logical reason for me to feel this way' but it won't magically help you to stop it.

It comes and goes. It's severe now. I am normally mild-maybe moderate some days. It doesn't seem correlated with anything I can think of.

Cannabinoids help a lot. I am a huge fan of being responsible with my concentrates and go most of a day without to keep tolerance at bay.

From studying your posts I would have to say that you're a dead man walking so u might as well give TCA's a try.

Would rather die trying without them.
