I've been volunteering these past few years as part of an HR initiative, where basically we go round engaging with homeless and street users, giving them info about appropriate help should they want to access it.

It also mainly means giving out supplies. So basically I walk about with a big rucksack and I'll be handing out needles, sterile cups, etc ; injection equipment on demand but CLEAN.
I advise street users on injecting technique and how best to keep healthy.

I often accompany people to ER or general practice because they feel too intimidated or put off to go there by themselves, (many times because of past adverse experience), to make sure they get treatment.

Plus I agree to accompany people to court, who might be drug users or also immigrants having their case fought, as a kinda moral back-up.

Since I'm not a member of the legal profession I will not be allowed in the actual court room during the hearing (unless the presiding judge specifically permits my presence).

In my experience this is generally VERY psychologically helpful to the person even if I can't legally or medically intervene in either case ; but just from knowing somebody is willing to speak on your behalf who knows the situation.

Thoughts -? Experiences -?

PS if you're considering helping in this way, please get involved.

All I do is carry narcan around everywhere. And have used it three times in as many months.
Maybe this is not enough but time is restricted and being in public is still not my greatest past time.

just ask the people you helped with narcan
One asked me why I brought them back as they were trying to die. All I could say is that I couldn't knowingly ignore the situation and apologized. lol
Later she thanked me but I know her life is hell and hope at some point she gets a break and life becomes more valuable to her.
Thanks for your post shit just seems so surreal and upended these days it is baffling to me.
Peace

That's can still save a life man! Narcan is the front line of help so to speak ; because without it too many people will never NEED taking to the doctor or taking to court.

PS I'm also not the greatest at socialising or being around the public, so I get that.

Yep sadly there's a ton of DELIBERATE overdoses, and that's generally due to the absolutely non-existent 'help' in too many places. People lose hope and feel abandoned by society, and can't see a way back to a life that's worth living. That's why I made this post.

Just gotta call from dude (a non user of opioids but in the "scene"). He had to narcan another and is out so I gave him what I have. I can get some tomorrow from pharmacy when I pick up "clients" prescriptions.
He said why do they even use the shit if it's gonna kill em. My response was that they do not know what it is they are taking it's just not what they were looking for.
Please be safe, guys (inclusive of all).

What more can we do...?
My freaking days are already enough to loose my mind.
Again... what can we do?
Is there a list somewhere? IK. It's rhetoric.
